Trouble getting started

So for the past few years I've kept up with postings and read all I could find on line about hypertufa. Acquired materials, dreamed of projects. But analysis paralysis takes over. Nothing gets done; material goes bad. My biggest question of the moment is -- when? I'm in the central foothills of VA, halfway between Lynchburg and Charlottesville. Temps have fluctuated between highs of near 90 and lows near 40 this spring. I understand that nothing is assured or guaranteed, but do my gardenweb neighbors have any advice on a best range of time to start a tufa project? I need to chip away at my excuses for inaction. Advice on timing would be a start! Thanks for indulging an insecure newbie.
