Are we having a ball ball yet..?

Seems like there are some weird vibes going round in the matter of ball making.Fleur has just informed me via another thread that, she too had this idea for a water feature all contained in a ball.Mine was to have a pump with a frother nozzle sit in the bottom of the ball, with the nozzle adjusted so that the froth barely peaks out of the ball's opening.I'd also put a light(we just ordered a bunch for the business)of 10w inside, with a coloured lens on it,pointing up at the froth.Fun stuff.

And...

This past weekend,we had B&B guests in.Dennis is a distributor for frothers and other nozzles!(I'll tell you which company via my e-mail.)Gave me a great price(must have been the breakfasts that I cooked!),so I'll be doing this on my next ball, next week(I'm off for a few days, starting Thursday.)

For those that are interested,we've been setting up our gallery out around our pond.Ann(my lovely wife)is doing the photos, and she says that she should be posted to our website by early next week. Please e-me for the web address.

If you check the site, you'll be able to see Rick's big balls...OK,I just had to use that one!!

People on this forum have the most amazing ideas. I am trying to imagine what a "frother" is. I get the basic idea probably but I have never seen a ball of froth.... sure would like to though. Hurry with those photos!

ps.... I sense your mind is reeling with attention-getting variations of the "Rick's Big Balls" theme for signage around your Bread and Breakfast grounds.... So many possibilities come to mind, but don't paint up any signs til you sleep on it.... (maybe not the best way to have expressed that advice)

Hi,Laura.I'll only expose those on the Net!And,yes,I'll sleep on it.Thanks for the thought.but, what away to get noticed. In a good, benign way.
As to a frother.Nozzles come with various functions-tulip,bell designs.A frother has the water heavily aerated. It comes out of the nozzle head like a froth of egg-white.It requires, from my limited research,a pump( of at least a 1/2 inch inside diameter outlet)of a volume minimum of 170 gph, more being better, apparently.I've ordered a couple of them to play with.As I said,I got a good price in CDN dollars.I'll report on the success(or no )in a couple of weeks.
As to the balls-the whole concept here is to keep everything INSIDE the ball, but well visible.Be it a froth or some other nozzle, lit or no.This concept would work very well on the thousands of balconies in Vancouver and the new condos in the outlying areas. The ball is light(14 lbs minimum to 20 +,depending on number of coatings of Mymud),it doesn't take a great deal of water(A guess at this point would be a depth of 6-8 inches)and it looks ...well,tres cool!
Again,I'll keep one and all informed.the good, the bad,the whole ugly truth!

A frother sounds like a great new toy. I don't have much experience with pumps but it sounds to me like something pushing 170 gal of water a minute thru a half inch outlet would create enough froth inside the ball to cause it to take on a life of its own and try to leap off a balcony.
Oh heck, I just reread your post and it says 170 gallons an hour. Still, 3 gallons a minute should spew out a lot of froth. Just think .... if you added a couple drops of soap.....

I eagerly await reports of your inventing.

ROTFLMBO ltd, Thats exactly the reason why the two malls in the city where I grew up (Madison WI) removed the beautiful water features they had been originally built with. They were a great place to sit quietly and listen to the water, it helped block out the noise of the mall a bit. Those long, wide hallways filled with people chatting, women in high heels, kids making kid noise LOL are now able to be heard fully in those sterile waiting areas they now have. Sad to see them go but they were a tempting target for soap.

Rick, your work(s) sounds very interesting. I wish I could see pic's of it somehow : (

Thanks for keeping us informed though.
