I spent a couple of hours today dropping a cement border around one of my gardens. Essentially it is just a bag of cement mix (the one with sand and small pebbles), water and a bit of peat. I mix them up and drop them around beds that I had previously made. I use a gallon water container cut in half as my mold. I mix it up a bag at a time and usually do 10 bags to border a garden bed. I got the idea from someone on this forum that used their extra tufa from projects that way. I love the way it looks but others may not. Let me know if you want any further details. Adele

Someone had made a cool border out of fish jello molds I'm sorry I can't remember who it was, but it was really cute.

Oh I remember them. It was really cute. There was also a post from someone that dug a trench around the garden and dropped bags of dry cement into the trench and then watered it in. She then topped it off with flat stones. It is a look I would like to eventually try. I will see if I can find that old post.

Thanks so much! You can always count on a quick response here! I love your border Adele. That is really cute. I also like the trench method. That's looks very easy. I don't have rocks, though. But, I was thinking along the same line of getting small slate pieces so that the border would be flush with the ground...kinda like a mowing lip so that you could run the mower right along the top of the border. I also love the idea of the jello molds. I was thinking last night about using the cheap foil baking dishes and doing a stepping stone affect...marbles, shells, leaves, small pine cones, nature stuff....etc...

I would love to see the fish mold thread if anyone can find it...

Thanks, everyone. I did type in the jello mold and got lots of reading to do. I'm stopping by the dollar store tonight to see if they have any kind of funky plastic for molds....

I was also wondering - I do mosaics - Has anyone tried using grout (say a cup full) as a colorant for cement? I have a bag of terra cotta grout that I thought I might try to use. Anyone???

Betsy, my brother used to live in Katy (5 year transfer from Calgary). I hear what you're saying about the movers. We are moving in December & I'm looking at my troughs, mushrooms, etc. and wondering how much I'm going to have to cough up in bribes! lol

GC, if you find that you don't have room for your 'tufa mushrooms with LED lights at your new place, I'll gladly store them for you, purely in the spirit of friendship and altruism, of course...

aww no mushroom thread and led lights in the mushrooms too. repost please!! sounds very interesting. I have LED's kind of placed around my pond but mushrooms scattered about with lights? sounds too good to be true.
