will pilea root in water?

i had an accident today and broke a stem of my pilea off at the soil line (I don't remember what type it is, execpt that it starts with 'mountain.' It's got green leaves with red veining, and the leaves are crinkled.)

I took it the broken stem and put it a vase of water with some pothos cuttings. Will it root? Will it poison the pothos?
