I am curious how you made the nobby trough.. the link to directions date 8/2/04 doesn't work anymore. I did a search and came up empty. Think the trough is GrEaT !! Would love to know how you did it. Thank you

I have looked at, but have never tried to make a hypertufa planter. So, does anyone know how I can try to do it ,or something similar, without any peat moss as they don't have it in Costa Rica

Costaricafinca,
Many people has substituted other ingredients such as saw dust or other light weight materials for the peat moss. Experiment a little and let us know how it comes out!

Thanks so much for the kindness in taking the time to repeat your directions. It is greatly appreciated!! I did look at your album on photobucket earlier.. but some of the things I would not have picked up on like the flat strainer used with the torch or motor oil as a release agent. Very creative!!

I've never tried it but could Costa Rica use coffee grounds in the tufa mix? I know a lot of our Seattle coffee comes from there! Might add some nice color, too.

Looks I also missed this post, I'm trying to catch up on reading some of the threads I didn't get to. Just wanted to say your pot looks great planted. You always seem to make the right choice of the types of plants you use for your pots. Do you have the plants first and make the pot for that plant? Or do you just make the pot and find the right plant for it? I was just curious. Great job anyway!

I usually just make the pots. It seems a plant just calls to be put in a certain pot. I have 3 new plants sitting around in the nursey pots and about 15 empty 'tufa pots. One day the "pot" or the "Plant" will let me know which to plant where. No I aint smoking the plants and I am only a little crazy but this process seems to work.

It was the stroke, then the medication was making me tire easily, I had no energy, I was very lethargic, my muscles ached, I could go on but the Drs are working to get the meds adjusted, in the middle of this my DW broke her wrist so I've been trying to be her right hand. I do as much as I can cause I don't like sitting still. I'll be ok.

Thanks so much for posting the pics again--I was distressed when I couldn't find the link! Having grown up in New Mexico, I have a very soft spot for cacti and other pricklies and you've given this one a very good home. I like the idea of putting pigment powders on the mold to get a mottly, unpredictable color effect.

So sorry about the stroke and DW's wrist. Take good care of yourself and you'll be up and about soon--meds and therapies work wonders these days!
