A vanity picture

Well now that it's finished, what to do with it?

I started with a scratch coat of S-type mortar over a cardboard form then a 1/2 " layer of my favorite mix (1 part Portland, 2 parts perlit, and 1 part wood shavings- hamster bedding), lastly a slurry coat (8 parts portland, 1 part fire clay, and 1 part silica fume.) For the finish I used food color, craft paints, and spray paints. The vase is 13" tall, 14 " in diameter at the widest part, and weighs in at 12 pounds. The colors in this pieces: purple food color, royal blue craft paint, light Hauser green craft paint, metalic gold spray paint, and transparent brown spray paint.

WOW, It looks very nice. The colors worked very well for you. I wouldn't of thought to use food color. Nice shape. Did you have a form on the outside to get the shape or is it more free form? Looks very symmetrical. I always like to see what someone else makes. Great job. Kathy

Thanks, I love to play with color but my main enjoyment comes from doing what others say cannot be done. I know you have heard people say, "you can't do that" when what they mean is: they can't do it. And naturally the other group to expose are those who do things the same old way over and over and over. Those are the people who if left to teach would still be teaching that the world is flat.
