Is this made from hypertufa?

My family and I traveled the length of the Blue Ridge Parkway this summer and stopped along the way in Blowing Rock, NC. I was in absolute heaven to so many blooming flowers and of such variety. We spent a lot of time strolling the streets. One evening, as we were walking to Mellow Mushroom Pizza, we passed a small house on a side street. In the front of the hosue was this statue. I was in love!!!! I rang the doorbell to inquire where the statue was purchased- nobody home :( I asked the staff at Mellow :( No idea. I asked the staff at our hotel a block away. I asked a local realtor. I called every garden shop/ landscaper/ greenhouse. No luck in finding out about the statue.

:( I just want one of these beautiful statues. It reminds me of a book my daughter and I read together called Miss Rumphius. It was my daughter's favorite book for a while.

Finally, it occurred to me that this was a one-of-a kind pice of art made from hypertufa. What do you think? If it is, I am about to become a hypertufa artist in training.

Can't tell from the picture. Did you feel it? Did it have a smooth texture? sand? was it pitted? Something like this can be made on a wire armature with just about any cement mixture (hypertufa, sand topping, mortar/stucco). Either on this forum or the GardenWeb Junk forum someone was dipping old straw garden hats, plastic dolls and stuffed bears in a watery cement mix to put on a thin coating. I think they did the dip several times. Billie

I would say that it is concrete. It looks like concrete, and I can't see anyone putting that much work into a tufa piece with the expectation that it will fall apart in ten years or so.

I am trying to talk my husband into another trip to Blowing Rock so that I can continue my search for the statue ;) Not sure I could duplicate it. I just love it so much!

What a wonderful Garden Lady Sculpture!

Did you happen to jot down the address where you saw the statue? You could write to the homeowner for information. If you don't have the address, maybe someone at the hotel where you stayed could get it for you or a phone number ( maybe send them a gift certificate as thanks).

I can see why you're so enchanted with her.
