Hey everyone! I have a bromeliad, some sort of vine that looks like a monstera, and another unidentified plant that I need names for. They were free to good home plants so I have no tags for reference and I can't find them in any books or online. I'll post pictures if I can figure out how to do so.
Unfortunately, those addresses just show where the pictures are stored on your hard-disk, so we can't see them. You'll need to upload them to a photo hosting service on the internet and link them from there.
I like Flickr myself, and I know others use Photobucket, but there are many others. Good luck with it.
I'm sorry, Toni! I know you knew what you meant and I hate to be nitpicky but if trying to google a latin name, well u know... it's just like porn. You have to be very specific. Just wanted jammin to find it.
***"it's just like porn. You have to be very specific"*** That's my new quote of the week . . .
#1 is one of thoses things I see in HD all the time and don't really pay much attention too
#2 is a bromeliad but I don't know which one. You may need to wait until it flowers to find out but then it'll die soon after it does, that is just the natural cycle of bromeliads but they often send up pups before that happens.
Purple, shame on you! lol..Since I don't view porn, I don't know about specifics.. But you're 100% right about proper spelling. If a name is misspelled, and someone tries Googling, chances are they won't find it.
I'm still not sure what type of bromeliad it is. The bio professor who gave it to me doesn't know the name either but he did tell me that if I wanted to bloom it I should put it in some sort of containment with a sliced in half apple. I'm not sure if I want to go through all that trouble but it has grown a decent offshoot. Actually, the container holds about 4 "vases" plus the offshoot.
Jammin, chances are if a side shoot is growing, it 'could' have already bloomed. Broms bloom once. After the flower dies, the plant does, too. How long have you had it?
The good news is, after shoot/s are half the size of mom, cut into roots with a sharp knife, then place in a container the same size mom was in..or if she's a goner, use that pot. One pot per shoot.
Babies need bright light to grow and produce blooms. Along with humidity.
The shoot will take 1-2 yrs to flower. My A. fasciata bloomed 1.5 yrs after removing from mom. She produced 7 shoots. I kept two, gave remainders to friends.
If your Brom never bloomed, the apple in a plastic bag, with plant, works. Ethylene Gas, from a ripe apple,' promotes flowering.
Jammin, it's not a lot of work, lol. Use a clear, plastic bag, toss a 'ripe' apple inside, and the plant, and let it be. Keep inside the bag a week or two, then remove..BTW, if you decide to try the apple experiment, keep the bag out of direct sun. It gets way too hot.
One thing I learned about apples and a few other fruit. There's cases, the gas from the apple can prevent some plants from blooming. Weird huh? Good luck..Toni
Shauna, you may want to ask your question in a new discussion. Don't know what the first one is, but it looks like it needs more light and moisture more often. The other 3 pics look like one of the Plectranthus.
