I believe that the bark grafting is recommended for spring when the leaves begin emerging and the sap is flowing so that the bark "slips".

T-budding and chip budding should be OK now.

I'm still doing bark graft, chip-bud and T-bud and will be until fall. Whenever the maximum air temperature is in the ideal range of 70 to 90 deg F for at least 10 days of forecast, you can graft (Bark, chip, T-bud) from now until late fall. Although best time is spring for beginners, you can do it with good success long after spring time. The barks will be slipping most of the time during the season. When temperature exceeds 95 to 100 deg F, just abandon grafting if you cannot bring your grafted plants inside. from 90 to 95 deg F, I would use aluminum foil to shade the grafts partially (shade only against noon and afternoon sun).

One thing is that if you are bark-grafting when the temperature is ideal, you would see the results much more quickly than during the early spring.

It's too hot now, try again around October 1. 90F+ is too hot.
