How do I keep from buying a new plant every time I walk into a store? By already having one at home. I suppose that's not going to work for everybody, though.

By leaving the money & credit cards at home & frankly (tho' it's less fun, I'll admit it) by exercising some self-discipline.

Maybe in your case, by remembering that in anothrr month or so you'll have your hands full w/out buying more plants!!! Best wishes w/ the baby!!

Uh, I don't, however I went to two nurseries today and didn't find one thing that wanted to come home with me. I almost bought a ginger and some mint though. Neither could be considered house plants.

Remember whichever plant you do buy, you will eventually have a crawlie guy trying to eat them, so be sure you know what is safe and what is not before you have to go to the emergency room. Or be sure you have high enough shelves to keep plant and child a safe distance from each other. What you have listed are not child safe, unfortunately. It's best to find safe places for these plants before the baby comes.

Luckily I have a 17 month old, 2 cats, and a 95-pound German Shepard who already helped me find out just how high I have to things to keep them out of harms way. It will be many years before plants come out of the spare bedroom, and off of the tops of high furniture.
