Garden Art

I have been admiring every ones garden art/junk for a couple of years now. Finally received a digital camera so I thought to share a few pictures of my garden art from recycled materials.

This a dragonfly that a put together from a table leg, doorknobs and old ceiling tin.

To answer Leveta, I both hammer(paneling nails) and drill (drywall screws) my willow projects depending on the thickness of the wood.

Thanks to for all your generous comments regarding my crafts.

Really cool stuff.I love the color of your walls do you remember the name?
Those twigs must need plenty of patience!

    HI Goldenpond

We bought the cottage four years ago and all the walls were painted the colour you see, the ceilings go up to the loft where I do my crafts during the winter, needless to say it will not be painted another colour anytime soon.
The twigs are my therapy, as there is no gardening during the winter in north eastern Canada.

I love the fish and the lamp in particular. What a great bunch of garden crafts, perfect for your cottage. What are the fish tail and fins made from?

First of all, Thanks to whoever got you the digital camera! Yeah, love pics!

Next, your GJ is so very lovely...love how you used "willow"...the welcome sign and porch area to your cottage is just so inviting!!! Love the oval rug and the awesome mosaic window! Also love how you've used old ceiling tile in your projects! The lamp & child's chair look so natural in your setting!

What a beautiful place you have to work during the winter...enjoy your loft and that spectacular view...and thanks for sharing! Jeanne S.

Welcome, Willow!! Great creations. I bought a book, Twig Furniture, but have yet to make anything. I thought of the book while looking at your beautiful craft pieces. I especially love the fish. Very primitive looking and that's a look I love. Your birdhouse, is that made uot of a piece of 2x4 or similar with an old ceiling tin roof? Kinda hard for me to see. Thanks and keep on sharing!!

wow...good stuff. I really love the cottage. And the dragon fly, my goodness, never thought about doorknobs for eyes.

Love it all especially the star & twigs on the wall & dragonfly, & the little chair. What did you use for the seat,I have 1 that is in need of caning or something like it. I like what you did on it. The wall color is lovely also, wonder what they used. It looks like S.D. in winter! That's where I'm from!! It must get very cold up there! Thanks for the tour! it was great!! Jan

Welcome Willow! You've found the perfect home away from cold Canada! I love the comforting feel you "feel" from your cabin, like a wooly blanket being wrapped around you all snuggly warm. Fantastic dragonfly! That would be so cool to walk up your front steps & be greeted by him.

Welcome Willow! I love all the willow stuff! The lamp and chair are wonderful! You are very talented. I do have one question. Do you have to make the stuff when the twigs are still "green", or can you soak them after they are dry?

    Hi Marlene & Cookiemon

To make the fish I carved a piece of soft wood for the body, then rubbed water down paint on it, as mentioned the eye is a painted beer bottle cap, side fins are cut out from old ceiling tin, then nailed to the back, tail fin was stuck in the wood. It was made several years ago, therefore the details are somewhat vague.

It is best to work with the willow or alder while it is green, much easier to nail in soft wood otherwise you must pre-drill each nail hole. For chairs and love seats (mine are in storage for the winter)there is a lot of bending required for the arms, seat and back which is impossible to do with dry wood.
