some things I have been working on

Here's some things that I have been working on. Last summer I made this planter chair out of a skid. It's in storage in my shed right now and has my bowling ball/gazing ball setting on it.

Here's a birdhouse I just painted.

And here's a bench I have partly painted. I still need to put either butterflys or mushrooms on it.

Deb, I love gifted people who can paint! Very nice bench and birdhouse. Hubs loves your skid chair. We have two bowling balls waiting for our attention. Yours are garden ready!! Thank you so much for posting the pics! Susie

Thank you all. I made that chair while there was a slow period during our yard sale last summer. I got it done and painted and sat it out in the sun so the paint would dry quicker. The next lady that came to the sale wanted to buy it!! Of course, I kept it. LOL

Deb, I LOVE YOUR CREATIONS!!!!! I am truly fascinated by your chair! The little country store near us has offered me skids...now I'm going to take them up on their offer! JUST BEAUTIFUL! Your bowling ball is beautiful!!!! Could you take a close-up picture of it? What did you use on it? And your birdhouse and bench are fantastic!!!! Just BEAUTIFUL, INSPIRING creations! Thanks for sharing!!!! Bear Hugs! Kirk (I used the word BEAUTIFUL a lot! The perfect word for your creations!)

Love the colors you used in your birdhouse and bench! The skid chair will look awesome when it is planted. The holder you have for your pretty blue BB is very pretty too.

I just want to know how much that pretty kitty helped you with all that painting. I don't see any purple or pink paw prints on the floor!

Jeannie, I have gathered the things for my first totem also. I have had them for about a month and havent glued them together yet. I will have pictures of that later. Kirkus, run and get those skids!!!!!! That chair was so easy to make and I really enjoyed it last summer with a plant sitting on it. I will get a close up picture of the ball today when it gets light outside. LOL Its a blue bowling ball with blue half marbles glued on it. Its not even grouted. I figured it didnt really need it. Luna, I found those holders for the bowling balls for less than a dollar at good will and salvation army. I found some neat ones and they work great as holders. Felix, the kitty, was not much help but had to come and check it all out once I was done for the day. LOL

I LOVE that skid chair!! I have 3 skids I've salvaged and haven't done a darn thing with 'em and after seeing what you've done with yours... GREAT IDEA!!! I started collecting them after I saw on TV this guy make the most gorgeous table from one. He sanded it down and varnished it - looked real expensive. But now I like your rustic look chair a whole lot better!

Did you also make the birdhouse and bench? Love how you've painted them up!

No, I didnt make those. I got those from an auction. The bench is very well made and home made by someone. I would like to try and copy the pattern to make some in the future. I am thinking of getting a booth at the local antique/craft mall. The bench will be put there if I decide to do it. I think the birdhouse is already spoken for.
I cant say enough times how easy that chair was to make. Took no time at all to make it and paint it. I think I"ll make more of those if I do get that booth.

Deb as a lover of all things painted I think you did a great job but WAIT...............................................
IS THAT plain white cupboards behind it all???????
Why oh why haven't you used your creativity on them? I had a ball in one home I lived in painting an entire garden scene in the kitchen with bee skep, fence, birdhouses, lots of flowers and mailbox,I just kept adding to it it.
    Keep up the good work!

I have thought of doing that too. I actually have flowers on the drawers in my laundry room and the wall has a tree and other things painted on it. The old door in the kitchen I had painted a sun on it and welcome below the sun. The cabinets are looking very inviting now. LOL

Love love love the planter chair! And those adorable breezy flowers! Could you tell me a step by step on the chair? Just briefly first this than that kind of thing.

First I made the base for the seat. A square or rectangle, whichever one you want. I used 2 x 4's. Then I added the legs. The back legs can go to the top of the seat base, the front legs need to go high enough to support the arms of the chair. I used wider boards for that and had to cut it down to match up with the size of arm board I used. Then I cut down the the skid boards to fit the seat. Attached those to the seat base. I added a board to the front of it under the skid slats to hide the ugly 2 x 4. And I think I added one to the back to make it even for adding the boards at the back. Then I cut the boards for the back of it. Then cut them at an angle and cut the lengths to what I thought would look good. Attach the boards to the back at the seat base. I then cut a couple more pieces of the skid board to attach to the slats on the back of the chair. I did that because the boards on the back of the chair were sticking out at different depths. I used the boards on the back to hold them all even. Then cut skid boards for the arms. Attach them to the front leg and at the back of the chair. Paint and your done. I'm not good at explaining things so I hope you understood the directions. lol

Ok, is a skid the same as a pallet-those things a pile of plywood sits on or bags of cement etc.???? Love the chair & bb & birdhouse is so cute with the delicate flowers!! Bench needs butterflies if you haven't done it already!! Your kitty approves,I think!! Guess if they don't they just "spray" it!!!LOL I transplanted 10 mini roses today!! Finally got the sod removed so I could get them where they belong. Hope it doesn't get to hot & kill them all. I had gotten most from NorEast & few from Michael's Roses, out here. Hope to work on some garden junk soon! Jan

Yes, a pallet and a skid are the same thing. Yea, I"m leaning toward butterflies too. I would love to be able to get out in my yard and do some things. It's coming, just taking its sweet time. LOL
