One craft book I had from the library included Xmas lights covered with artificial flowers. The author hot glued other embellishments to it as well - like little bugs. I think it was Decorating Accents for the Garden by Emily Phillips.

angie83, I love those lights but I could never paint that nice! Mine would end up looking like some weird alien beings.

thanks for this posting. i was putting up lights last night! i have a glass table top that i placed on an old oak barrel- i put the lights in a cluster and placed them inside the barrel and they give off a soft light through the glass.
i have a second string that i want to incorporate around my small fountain. thats still a wip.... i have some old jugs and thought about putting them in there but they might get too hot.
one thing i've thought of- going to the dollar tree and picking up some of the colorful plastic glasses. then put a hole in the bottom of each one with a soldering iron and stick the lights in...seal hole with GE II.
another thought would be using the plastic margarhita glasses and bury the stems in the ground to line a walkway or such- i'd have to come up with a cover for those though due to rain- maybe those clear plastic flower pot saucers?

I'm been wanting to make these for a long time. Tin can lights.

Great ideas!

Angie, you are just so talented! I'm not that good at painting. Great way to recycle!

Love the tin can lights!

The margarita glass idea sounds too cute!
