I need direction!

While I haven't posted here in a long time I do keep up with all the wonderful creations you all come up with! The variety and ingenuity here have always fascinated me.

We "finished" our yard last year, put in the last of the fence which was the white picket fence on the side yards we had dreamed about. My tipsys did so well, the "flower" bed, the huge pot with the birdcage on top, the ladder I painted red, white and blue and to put pots and birdhouses on, I can't even remember or name all the things I copied from all you!

And then we decided to sell our home and move to a brand new one!

So here I am starting all over, having a huge sale in a few weeks, parting with many of my things for the yard.

My question today is this: when my husband's family returned from two years in Afghanistan in 1959, one of the things my MIL brought home was a table top (coffee table size). It has a piece of stone for the bottom, all smooth like concrete would be. On top of that is an absolutely gorgeous inlaid mosaic, of marble, and green and rusty red stones. The inlaid part has metal strips that divide the pieces of stone and marble into the pattern.

When my husband brought this to our house the mosaic fell off the smooth under part. The metal strips are probably not usable.

Our idea is to attach the stone and marble to this smooth piece and then grout it all in.

QUESTION: What kind of adhesive should we use that will not discolor the marble pieces? It is not a white marble but a pale gray color. Also, I am thinking of darker gray grout that would be about the color of the metal would look more like the original.

Any help or direction to another website is going to be greeted with great glee!

My MIL had a wrought iron base made for this, but it will be used indoors.

Thank you all in advance for your help.

Lynne
