I use a fine gauge beading wire. It lasts longer than anything else I've used.

The ones I have use either small chain (almost like jewelry chain), beading wire or fishing line.

The beading wire that is coated is very strong and flexible.

I use Soft-Flex (brand) beading wire, fine. It works well and lasts a long time. Same stuff I use for making beaded jewelry. You get it at your local Hobby Lobby or bead store.
