My Studio

I promised in an earlier post that I would soon post pictures of what I have done in my studio. Well here it is. I used the old layout table in the center of the room. This gave me more room for additional work spaces and limited the space for my kids to store anything and everything in the center of the floor. On the left hand wall you will see an old window that I used as a door on a cabinet that I built. I still need to make the stained glass panel to put in the opening. This window and the one on the right wall cabinet were ones that my boyfriend replaced in our livingroom. There is also an old kitchen cabinet on the left wall and a couple of cabinets built out of wood from my old booth for craft fairs. These hold my rubber stamps. The stars on this wall and the back wall were clearance Christmas decorations. They originally had Santa painted on them. In the corner of the left and back walls is my TV cabinet. I made this from a pantry that has had many lives in the different homes I have been in since my divorce. It has held everything from food to now the tv and sterio (among other things). The Back wall has an old file cabinet that stores many different art supplies. We painted it white and trimmed it in black to freshen it up. Next to the file cabinet is the potting bench that we built out of the waterbed that I snitched from behind a shed at my ex husband's house (Don't worry! I had his permission to take it!) Above the potting bench and along that whole wall there are shadow boxes made from old drawers from the dresser that I turned into a storage cabinet for my cement molds and kiln shelves. That cabinet is on the right wall. Next to it is another work table with another cabinet built from a sheet of plywood that was being stored in the studio previously. Next to that is the other window cabinet. The work benches on the left and right walls were built from the old shelves in the studio. They were too deep and high for my uses but they work perfectly as work tables. On the front wall there is another old file cabinet which has been painted to match everything else. On the other side of the door there are a couple of crates that we painted and I am using them to store all of my old gardening magazines. Above the door and windows on the front wall I used old leuvered doors as shelves. I made magazine holders out of scrap paneling and wood from my old booth. (In front of those is the house that I have almost finished for TooMuchGlass...Now that the studio is done I will get it finished and mailed out!) There are also a couple of birdhouses that I am working on. And some old plant baskets that have been painted white. Those hold glass projects in progress. There is another cabinet with a window as the door on that wall next to the door. I found that window at the reuse it center in Ann Arbor for $5. The paneling that I used in the studio was some that I bought for $17 for all of it several years ago and some that my mom gave me that was stored in her barn. The windows and door used in the studio were old ones given to me by a friend when we built the studio a couple of years ago. Eventually I hope to make mosaic tiles of all of my stepping stone patterns for the flooring. Right now it is just chip board with paint stains on it. I also plan to make totems and garden ladies to display my stained glass objects on and around. I want to incorporate my stained glass and my garden junk for displayes. I hope to start teaching glass and having open studio time as well as occasional sales out of the studio. I could use the extra money to pay all of the medical bills and catch up on the other ones...lol. In all, the remodel cost me about $100 in paint and screws and extra wood that I didn't have laying around. I hope you all like what you see!

Great reuse of many objects from waterbed to shelving, glass racks & magazine containers!! What a fun place to come & take classes!! Or just to work on your projects!! Does your local library let you post things like "classes" our's does! Enjoy the fruits of your labors!! You did a wonderful job of it, don't know how you could be so organized with all your health problems but sometimes things like that spur us on!! Jan

I am so jealous, having such a great work space should really get your creative juices flowing. And great use of found objects and space. I wish I had a space where I could leave things in progress out to work on.

That's awesome, Micky. What a pleasure to work in a place of your own, where you have room to work and can find what you need. Everything looks real nice too the way you have done it. You're an inspiration. I'm so glad you're feeling better. Donna
