hanging decoration question

I want to do a swag up and around my front door. I don't want to put any holes in my aluminum siding and there isn't a porch or any architecture to attach to. So I'm wondering how you guys hang stuff like this? I'd need something that's removable when I'm done.

Has anyone had any luck with those 3M hooks outside?

someone once argued that I have steel siding.... that was easily debunked with a magnet. lol

I wanted to put one of those 3M hooks on our steel door, but on the back it said that you need to use it over 50 degrees.. or something like that. I figured it won't work..
how about double sided tape? like carpet tape or redline tape?

oh, I forgot to ask.. is the framing around your door aluminum also?

    the whole thing is aluminum.

I went to the 3m website and they said you can use it in cold temperatures as long as its installed above 50 degrees. Even if you have to warm it with a hair drier first.
I'm going to give it a try on a spot that's hidden and see if it does anything to my siding.
I stood out there staring at it for a full ten minutes today trying to figure it out.... there has to be some kind of hanger or something for this.

I think we would need to see what the door frame looks like. You must have some kind of "woodwork" around the door even if its covered in aluminium also.
What came to mind for me was to put something around the door kind of like the front piece of an arbor to attach stuff to. But that is probably too much.
Good luck with the 3m hooks. I'd be interested in knowing if they work.

I just wanted to say I have used the same 3M hook on the vinyl siding by my front door for well over a year now to hang wreaths and straw hats (depending on season). It is under the porch so not in the rain but definitely in the cold zone 6. The Christmas wreath is pretty heavy too. No problem so far. I cleaned it well before installing and it was warm then. I don't know if it will remove clean but I have no plans to take it down anyway. I wasn't willing to make a hole in my vinyl siding either.

That's exactly the thing I was looking for... thanks Luna. I knew there had to be a simple answer somewhere. Now that I know what it looks like, I'm thinking it would be simple enough to bend my own--- I will report on the progress on this :)

You can also use hot-glue. You can remove hot-glue using a hair dryer.

Hot glue never held up for me outside for very long. : (

I use the siding hooks too - they slip in underneath the siding and no holes are needed. A shop near me carries them. I love 'em!
