My totems

Hi,

I'm a lurker, deciding to share some of my totems. I think a couple I am going to give to my Mom for Christmas. The others I was considering putting in the craft sale at my office next month, but I just don't think they will go over very well.

On one in particular, the silicone glue slid down inside the jar and has a run look to it. I'd be embarrassed to even try and sell that one, even though it ones of my favorites. Maybe I'll just keep it for my own garden.

I think I'll give my Mom these two.

Don't be so hard on yourself, you did a great job. I like em all. What you have to do is educate people as to what they are and what a nice piece of "jewelry" they make for their gardens. They'll come around. Take a few pix of them in one of your gardens to display how they are used. Good luck.

You are totally initiated so now you are a pro garden junker. There are some beautiful pieces in your creations!! Katishooked was right, take one and put it outside in a flower bed or next to a bush. Snap a pic and use it to make a gift card. You can use these pics as price tags at a sale (I put 6 on a page, cut them out and punch a hole in each corner. Lace thin ribbon through the hole and tie to your pieces). It shows people how they are used. I suggest making the small totems that are put on copper poles for sales. They are much more portable for both you and the customer. Welcome!

Those are really pretty totems! You can get the dripped silicone off the one it dribbled down on. But I think you should do very well trying to sell them. Give it a try and see!

You sure have been a busy lurker! Wow! So many totems! I love all of the different colors and shapes that you've used. I couldn't see the silicone drip on any of the totems, but you can probably get that off if its on the outside. I think you're way too hard on yourself! You've done a great job--looks like you've been making totems forever! Thanks for sharing them with us and welcome to the forum and out of lurkdom!

The silicone drips, unfortunately, are on the inside of two of the totems, and it's quite evident up close. Without breaking it, there's no way I'll ever get inside to attempt to get them off.

That was a good idea about taking a picture of them in the garden to show what they are for, but I'm in Michigan and my garden is dead for the year!

    Thanks Vicki.

I wasn't sure how I would like the pinecones and dried flowers, etc. that I put in some of the clear pieces, but I think it kind of adds something. And they won't get wet and ruined!

I love the chandelier over your table! Did you make this?

    soinspired,

Yes I did. I wanted red accents in my dining room so I decided to make my own chandalier from the old gold one that was hanging there when I bought the house.
Thank you for the kind comment :o)

Great job! I love the one on the far left. That's really cool putting pinecones inside.
Do you have house plants? You could group them toegether & put your totems with the group for your pictures.

I thought you did! Excellent idea and I love your totems too by the way. I'm always looking at Christmas decorations that have the lovely beads & glass and use on my lamps and curtain rods for a little bling in the sun. Many decorations labeled Christmas can be used year round.

Well, here's a thought--even though I can't see the silicone drippy one--how about covering that one with glass globs or the like? That would surely hide it.....but, I do like them like they are!

Very nice combinations of colors and shapes! I like all the different textures you used too. Love the idea of putting things within pieces! You did a marvelous job of finding nice round pieces to mix in your totems. I think the the colors will look wonderful in the garden. Great job! I'm sure your mom will love hers and your craft buyers will too.

Love the chandie too. And I took a peek at your garden and thought it was gorgeous.

Thank you everyone, you've made me feel very welcome here!
I will definitely post more often and not lurk so much. I'm working on a couple other craft projects, so I'll share those when I'm done too.

Oh, I agree!! They are great.

I see some pieces in there that make me regret having passed similar ones up at sales.

Since I first read about totems on this site, probably a year ago, I've been buying glass, just about any colored glass, hoping to find time to work on these. We are gone from home a lot for work, and other family obligations has kept me from getting started.

Your post may be the thing that lights the fire to get me moving.

They are great - and I do like the chandelier as well.

In order to show what they are for, if anyone would be willing to send me a picture of one or more of your totems in a garden setting, I could print it off to use as an example. I would never take anyones picture without asking, but if someone wanted to volunteer that I could use their photo, I'd be grateful. Please email me if interested.

    Thank you!

Welcom, Mindy! - Those that have pinecones in would look nice outside just under a pine tree...maybe some pine boughs on the ground for a pic. I'm thinking of the one with the turquoise colored bottle on the bottom. Have fun! Thanks for sharing! Jeanne S.
