Firefly Lites ~

I've had the toughest time trying to get photos of these to turn out,

even these aren't very good, but they seem to be the best I can do :-(

The bigger one hangs in my pergola, with a bunch of other glass junk :^)

OMG those are absolutely awesome! How creative.

Those are GORGEOUS!! OKAY? So where are the instructions??!! LOL! Definitely something I need to add to my list!!

Don't apologize for the picture. It's enough to make my mouth drop to the floor. Absolutely wonderful, outta sight, spectacular!!!! I also love your stone path and the rustic fence. What is the green one in the first picture on the right? That gold is beautiful. I can see you've used copper wire and beads and things, but the glassware is sooooo different. Never see those in my town. LOVELY.

    Aww, thanks very much :^)
These are the glass globes that were a part of many table lamps and hanging fixtures
back in the 60's and 70's, I find them (the lamps) at yard sales and thrift shops.

I used stacks of them to make the electric totems I posted here some time back,
I don't know where that post went, I guess it fell out of the system.

Anyway, these are super simple, just disassemble the lamp, find or make a hanger
and drop in a string of mini lights . . . ta daa :D

Those are wonderful!!! I Really love them!

Yup!!! A "Gotta Do Project!" Most def!

Have to add my two cents--totally agree with what all the others have said. Those are beautiful and wish I could find some glass like that! Luvs

Amazed!!! Those are just too pretty for words and I could spend all day under there, just gazing at them. I love glass hangy things.
I rewired a lamp for my mom last week and was shocked at how many sections were in the base, 4, 4 sections. All I could think was how can I get this home?????? She took one look at me and said don't even think it (BUSTED)
    Decompost those are very pretty!

Awesome - those are terrific and what a great patio/porch or deck addition. Great job!!

very beautiful! do you do that copper pipe work too?

WOW, Those are just the neatest things!!! Great job!!!

I'm really overwhelmed by all of your kind words.

Bright199 ~ Yes! That's exactly the sort of thing, lucky I didn't see it first *hehe*.
Most of mine have openings at both ends, so they don't collect water out in the open.

As to the other "thingies" hanging there,
    some are commercially manufactured pieces
(my pals know what to give me at gift time *LOL*),
and some are our own fabrications.
Hubby and I do the copper wire and tubing "wraps"
on various odd bits of glass that I've gathered.

To those who admired the paving (Thank you), that's homemade, too.

We used one of the concrete mold systems,
this photo of the same area was taken earlier this summer.

Yep, those are all really cool! Wish I could find stuff like that! I love your path, too. I made one of those one year...wish I could do some more!

    Barbara

Oh My - What a great job you did!!! Love them and the walkway is great too. I have the same molds and made a walkway, but it's not nearly as magnificant as what you have made. Fabulous!!!!

That last pic is soooo nice Decompost!!! LOVELY!!!

That is SO nice! ( Especially nice to see when they are predicting snow and sleet tomorrow!!) I found some battery operated LED lights a Target today. I'm saving them for some piece of glasss. I haven't found it yet, but it's out there!!

    Maria

That is so nice. I would love that in my garden, it makes me happy to look at glass decorations, when(if) the sun shines or even when it rains, glass is always pretty. You made it so it looks even nice when its dark! I love the colours and combination of the different shapes.

Oh how WONDERFUL that walkway is and the pergola and the,, and,,, and,,, It's all so beautiful and inviting. I've looked at those molds at Lowes a hundred times. Are yours all separate pieces you made, then just placed them randomly? Cuz I don't really like the looks of the ones useing the molds and keeping them in one piece. Looks too fake, but yours looks like natural stones. In your first picture, it really looks so natural and seeing it more clearly, it STILL looks like natural stones. Very good job. What mixture did you use to form them? Instructions please. I love your path.

Beautiful! It is good to see your name here once again. You don't post often, but when you do, it is always something to admire and to wish for. Keep up the good work.
    Just show up more often!!

    Thanks again, gang,
It's nice to see that I'm not the only one
with a glass fetish around here. *LOL*

    :D Well Hi nonacook!
So good to see you again, too.
I've been a naughty girl and been away too long. *sigh*
    I'll try to do better . . .

    **slowmedown ~
I'm with you, using the mold repetatively
just looked way too uniform for my taste ;^)
Instructions? Well.... it wasn't complicated, but VERY labor intensive.

We laid plastic over part of the driveway and made a little assembly line there.
Using a sand mix/grout mix (in other words, a mix with no gravel),
we laid the mold on the plastic sheet and filled it with the 'crete mix.
Then I randomly "peppered" the tops with black concrete colorant powder -
another way to break up the uniformity of appearance.
(Just put the colorant powder into an old plastic spice jar with a shaker top,
sprinkle it on the surface and trowel the powder in before removing the mold.)
I found that if you mix the concrete to the right (slightly dry) consistency,
you can remove the mold almost immediately
after trowling the cream to the top without them slumping.

We'd make as many "stones" at a time as we had the time and energy to do,
and cover them with more plastic to let them cure there on the drive for several days.

Then came the "fun" of hauling them and laying them in place
(wear gloves, trust me on this).

If I were more clever, I would've properly prepared the area with weed-block, etc...
But, typical of me, I just laid them right onto our sandy soil
and brushed more sand between them.

Understand it all except the part w/sand mix/grout mix. Then you said crete mix. What kind of grout mix? Just regular play sand? And the mortar mix? Sure would help to know EXACTLY what mix you used. I can see where it would be labor intensive, especially if you used only one mold, but it sure is a great path, and looks so good where you have it and how it's laid out. Thanks for the instructions.

Those are BEAUTIFUL lights. I understand the basics of it; but when you said...."drop in a string of mini lights" I got lost cuZ in the pics I didn't see and wires or extension cords. How'd u do that? BEAUTIFUL I love it.

Thanx, flyonawall, I'm pleased that the cords don't show too much,
they're green so they kinda blend, but they are there ;^)
If you look at the first photo on the right, the green one,
you can see the green cord coming right up out of the center of the globe,
then I just twined it around the metal hanger and hook,
right up to the rafters of the pergola.
I didn't need an extension cord, because we already had
a long string of mini lights stapled to the underside of those rafters.
(in the 3rd photo, at the top of the thread, you can just see a few of them)
I just plugged the cord from the lamp right into the outlet on the end of those.

    * slowmedown ~ Sorry not to have been more specific earlier,
had to wait for hubby to get home, he's my technical guy. *LOL*
We used 80 lb. bags of QuickCrete mortar mix,
really easy to use, all we had to add was water.

Great. I thought that might be what you meant. That's what I used to make the filler "beads" in my "Bead Pole". Easy to mix and sets up quickly. Many thanks. Now I gotta figure out another place for a little path - AFTER I get the one I messed up done - in the spring. Can't stand this cold weather. Getting in the way of outside projects.

Oh my, is my face red!?!
Now hubby tells me I managed to get it wrong anyway,
he says it was 80 pound bags of QuickCrete Sand Mix,
(the mortar mix was apparently for another project
and would not be strong enough for the pavers) . . .

    . . . my poor head is spinning . . .

Wow thanks so much for posting your idea. And as for the pathway. That is beautiful too. I always wanted to do that. I have seen the molds for sale just never tried it. Maybe I can try next year. I could add that to my wish list(-: That is just to cool. Don't worry when I make something I will post a picture. I can't wait to get going on this. You inspired me when I first saw your work on the other forum we both joined. That

Awww, nona *blush*blush* you're much too kind.

*LOL* slowmedown, I guess my old posts have been "dumped" from GW Junk?
I've looked, but I can't find them, is there some sort of archive that I don't know about?

"The Horse" intrigues me. What was it? Do you still have it? We wanna seeeeee.

Fabulous!! Can we get a new version of the 'electric totems' post that was lost? or just a wee hint?

Oooh! Thanks for the pic of your pergola and path. Now DH can see what it is that I want to do. He just can't envision it! But this works. He poured me some cobblestone type pavers, my intention was to make a patio with them, but he insisted that it'd cost us too much to do that, and it'd be cheaper to just pour a slab and stamp it. (After I did some number crunching, and lifting a few of those pavers, I realized he was right!) But I can use those pavers for a path similar to yours. I'm going to use wood stain to give them some coloring.

I can't wait to start on my pergola/seating area...but now that I see yours, with the fountain bowl in the center, I might do a smaller one with my italian boy fountain and put it in the rose garden area. I can just see a beautiful climbing rose on the baby pergola...and LOTS of glass gems hanging!!

*LOL* Glad if I could help you to make your case, Pesky1,
I can't wait to see your project, it sounds great!!

Sandcrab, I've put the electric totems back up, I hope you like them :^)
