BLUE Bottles

MERRY CHRISTMAS to all! Last night I received a bottle of red wine. (NO this is not a commercial) It would not let me sign in on the Conversation side. The wine is made in Paducah, KY. where I happen to live. and I thought it was beautiful!

Jlily, hubs bought me a bottle of white wine in a blue bottle for Christmas/our anniversary(from local Oklahoma winery!) I am planning on adding it to my blue bottle tree after I chop down one of our cedars(bad tree!) and will move existing ones to garden in the yard. Pics by the end of January!!!

BTW, don't our finds for projects qualify as being on topic?

Lovely blue bottle & interesting label!! Since the cork is on the table- how does it taste? Jan

I am not a wine connesuer (spelling?). But I thought it was really good.

Yes, it will be a garden junk item--so it should qualify as "on topic."Jlily

I don't drink either! I tasted wine once when I was about 15 & babysitting. They had a big bottle of Mogan David wine I think was the name,in the fridge. I got a teaspoon out & sipped it & spent quite a while trying to get that awful taste out of my mouth. I loved Welches purple grape juice so I thought it must be pretty much like that- I was wrong!! That's a great "garden label" on that bottle, wonder if you could spray several coats of clear Krylon on it so you could put it on bottle tree with label intact! Jan

I don't drink either, but have been known
to buy wine for the bottle.
Yes-future garden projects are great for this page.

Great bottle! Love that frog! He would be a great mosaic or stained glass project!lol! I regret that I was too lazy to take the labels off my blue bottles on my bottle tree...I thought it would just weather off...no. Arg...one day I will haul them off and scrap away! I have a special tool I use now for doing that...one of those wheeled wallpaper scrapers, they cut the label and with just a quick soak it comes off!

Calamity, love your bottle tree!!! I've been trying to figure out how to make one without welding rebar and here you have it! Is it a 4x4 and? What did you use for the limbs to put the bottles on? Can I ask you how you made this please?

Thanks for the compliment! I used a 10ft 4x4, cemented into the ground, with long nails(predrill!!!) and on top I used old whiskey barrel hoops that were drilled then put onto rebar and the 4x4 drilled to set the rebar into to top. I like bottle trees so much I wanna get another one made...maybe a smaller one....or two...heh heh!

Thank you Calamity for the instructions on how to build a bottle tree. I'm going to get my dh to help me make one.

Great tip for getting labels off the bottle, calamity! (wheeled wallpaper scrapper)

I saw somewhere on the Internet where the whiskey barrel rings were bolted together & just left out in the yards/gardens for kids to push around! That's my plan for this Winter yet when DH asks, 'what are you going to do with those ol' things!' LOL! Love your bottle tree & nice bottle of wine you got, jily! TFS! Jeanne S.
