So the engine of my 23 year old John Deere 170 blew up and I don't know that the body/tranny/anything is worth putting a new engine in. The local farm supply store has a Simplicity Javelin 20/38 zero-turn mower that they were unable to sell previously and is now for sale for $1500.

I like the zero-turns. I think that having one would be great for going around the garden and playground and trees in my yard. However, I've also heard lots of stories about tranny's going out on zero-turns, I'm debating, should I buy a discontinued model zt like this, or just get another used JD on craigslist for closer to $500.

Looking for recommendations to help me make my decision.
