Thank you both for your comments. We actually just painted the outside last week. It is a definite improvement. No more big ugly pink house. We painted it with a Sandstone color, it's a newer type of paint from Behr that's made specifically for masonry and stucco. It was quite a project but really looks good. We are in the process of having the driveway and front sidewalk replaced this week and we are putting in a nice front porch. Landscaping is supposed to be done in aobut 3 weeks. Can't wait. It's definitely shaping up. I would also like to replace the front door. I will post pictures when it's completed.

I LOVE your home! I like the Feldon Architecture suggestion made by Housson. I'm thinking that you don't want anything above the lights flanking your door because you don't want to cut down the light entering the house. The frosted glass will cut down some of the light, but is a good compromise to get some protection.

If you add a portico, be careful to respect and compliment the modern simple design do not mix styles.

When I look at your home I see tall ornamental grasses in very bold simple design and perhaps some multistem River Birch and Redbuds. Remove the tacky overly pruned evergreens. Do not install a fussy complicated planting. That will be lost here and look completely wrong for the architectural design. Modern modern modern is what you have. Embrace it!

Keep the entry modern. No colonial columns please. Something along the lines of steel columns with a louver type aluminum sun screen above.

Any thought to painting the white trim around the windows Black?

The new concrete stands out a bit--would staining it all be an alternative? Love the big sycamore tree and the lake in the background and the new look. I think adding some height and color out front could be nice--maybe even a mod trellis/screen on the right with some climbing vines or even assymetrically on both sides? A building near me has that screening the windows and it looks really great.

I hope the water fountain is blocky and cultural and not fussy or it will look out of place and lost. Mounted on one of those massive entry walls like a big piece of sculpture is a possibility. If it is rather small, perhaps you should put it in the backyard where you will be able to enjoy it more.

The fountain is very contemporary, here is a picture. We purchased a large metal sculpture to go on the right side, it's just over 6 ft tall and about 32 inches wide. Then we were thinking about putting something on the left side to balance it out but smaller and possibly round. We had originally planned to paint the white trim a darker brown color but when we were painting decided to just wait on that.e have the paint but the white is vinyl/aluminum wrapping. Also, since we put white windows we weren't sure if the darker trim would work or if that would make them stand out too much.

Just found out the other day that the concrete contractor put a different concrete mix on that middle slab. We need to talk to him about making it right. I don't believe it will ever "blend in" as he has been telling me. It's been almost 2 months. Any suggestions on dealing with someone who is trying to pull the wool over your eyes??? I've tried several times and have never been able to successfull upload the picture of the fountain. Not sure what's going on there.

Well, you might be able to stain the whole driveway, maybe even the walkway, to lessen the impact. New concrete tends to look very raw for a long time and it is hard to match old concrete. It could have had more portland cement and less aggregate too.

Whether you can get it redone or not depends on your contract. What was specified?
