Next time you go there give them some advice on the needs of those plants, maybe they will take it maybe not.

Good thing you got your Orchids at the beginning of their "shelf life". Lighting is also an issue with stores like Walmart (Wally World). I would avoid these stores altogether, ESP. grocery stores, and stay c local garden centers and Orchid growers. You may pay a little more, but you'll be assured a healthy plant s any problems.

I have a Walmart that is specializing in killing orchids also. So, when I see a pretty one that's on the verge, I get the garden manager, point out the problem, and after hearing them tell me that they are only watering one ice cube a week (Just what orchids need...ice cubes), and my telling them that an ice cube won't leave an inch of water in the bottom of the wrapping, I ask them to discount the orchid since it's dying. They usually do. One really great thing is that with the mini-phals, their supplier usually puts 3 plants into the package so there are triple spikes showing. If you catch it early enough, you can get 3 beautiful phals for $6.50. Our Walmart is selling orchids for $12.95..not $10.00. I do the same thing with Lowes. Their plants are healthier and more expensive, but they will discount to half off if you can give them a reason. I'm about to go in and get a gorgeous dark crimson because there are no buds showing in the bud pods. We don't have any legitimate orchid growers here, so I've been able to get a good collection by taking sick orchids from the big box stores and nursing them back to health.
