Quote March 4

Try to put your happiness before anyone else's, because you may never have done so in your entire life, if you really think about it, if you are really honest with yourself.

Margaret Cho

Maybe I wanted to hear it so badly that my ears betrayed my mind in order to secure my heart.

Margaret Cho

That's the thing about jazz: it's free flowing, it comes from your soul.

Billy Crystal

The Word

Down near the bottom

of the crossed-out list

of things you have to do today,

between "green thread"

and "broccoli" you find

that you have penciled "sunlight."

Resting on the page, the word

is as beautiful, it touches you

as if you had a friend

and sunlight were a present

he had sent you from some place distant

as this morning -- to cheer you up,

and to remind you that,

among your duties, pleasure

is a thing,

that also needs accomplishing

Do you remember?

that time and light are kinds

of love, and love

is no less practical

than a coffee grinder

or a safe spare tire?

Tomorrow you may be utterly

without a clue

but today you get a telegram,

from the heart in exile

proclaiming that the kingdom

still exists,

the king and queen alive,

still speaking to their children,

- to any one among them

who can find the time,

to sit out in the sun and listen.

-- Tony Hoagland

Thanks Don! The words of Magaret Cho and Tony Hoagland hit the spot! I need to be reminded sometimes of what is real and true.

    Billy Crystal nailed it.....thanks, Don!

    Daimler-Benz built it....

    The Importance of Gottlieb Daimler
In 1885, Gottlieb Daimler (together with his design partner Wilhelm Maybach) took Otto's internal combustion engine a step further and patented what is generally recognized as the prototype of the modern gas engine. Daimler's connection to Otto was a direct one; Daimler worked as technical director of Deutz Gasmotorenfabrik, which Nikolaus Otto co-owned in 1872. There is some controversy as to who built the first motorcycle Otto or Daimler.

The 1885 Daimler-Maybach engine was small, lightweight, fast, used a gasoline-injected carburetor, and had a vertical cylinder. The size, speed, and efficiency of the engine allowed for a revolution in car design. On March 8, 1886, Daimler took a stagecoach and adapted it to hold his engine, thereby designing the world's first four-wheeled automobile. Daimler is considered the first inventor to have invented a practical internal-combustion engine.

    Karl Friedrich Benz
In 1871, He founded his first company with partner August Ritter, the "Iron Foundry and Machine Shop" a supplier of building materials.
Benz began his work on a two-stroke engine, in hopes of finding a new income. He received his first patent in 1879. In 1883, he founded Benz & Company to produce industrial engines in Mannheim, Germany. He then began designing a "motor carriage", with a four-stroke engine (based on Nicolaus Otto's patent). Benz designed his engine (958cc, 0.75hp) and the body for the three-wheel vehicle with an electric ignition, differential gears, and water-cooling. The car was first driven in Mannheim in 1885. On January 29, 1886, he was granted a patent for his gas-fueled automobile (DRP 37435) and in July, he began selling his automobile to the public.
    *********
In 1903, Karl Benz retired from Benz & Company; his designs were already outdated by Gottlieb Daimler. He served as a member of the supervisory board of Daimler-Benz AG from 1926, when the company was formed, until his death

Hoagland's poem. It came at just the right time. Awoke this morning to sunlight streaming in the windows. It was sorely needed, and even the dog is following the beams around, changing his lounging places through the day to catch its warmth.

We tapped our maple trees yesterday and I collected sap today to boil down. The red maple is a gusher, its canopy pulling the life-giving serum up from the roots where it was stored through the winter. I tasted of it, and its sweet on the tongue.

I have the front door open to the seed house all day to keep the automated vents from kicking on, and my plants seemed to have doubled in size from yesterday. I am up shortly to irrigate them and kick them in they little green butts with nitrogen.

    Oh yes........sunlight.
