Why are you so desperate? There are plenty of other desirable "Cattleyas"

Maybe they are no longer on nursery Catalogues due to the passing of time.

Some years ago, i was handing them out as raffle prizes, small un-flowered seedlings that mostly turned out well and one Nursery here was selling selected flowering Clones. Sadly all sold now.

One thing that may be a clue is the Mericlone Blc. Golden Tang 'Hildos' . Always wondered which nursery used Hildos as a clone name. If it is in the USA that may be a lead.

GT flowers are bright orange with a lot of red in the lip when they first open, then the blooms turn completely yellow as they age - so you probably saw "new" flowers.
I'm pretty sure I got mine at our society's plant swap...if there is a local Orchid group near you, join up and suck up.
Many of my most fabulous orchids are passalongs.

You know, I had a chance to do that and I came up 25 dollars short!
I will as soon as I get paid. Seems a lot of folks wanted me too:-)I actually picked up a few good orchids for just pennies from a few members. I hope they do well.
Thanks for that bit of info. I wondered why some were yellow and others very orange like Lumpy's.

I thought I was going to get one from a seller, but now he has none left at his nursery. The beat goes on.

Authru, I really appreciate your input too and suggestions. I happen to love Lumpy's orchard. There is something about that one that catches my eye.

I too would love another BLC Golden Tang if anyone finds them - I got mine from Kauai Orchids but it died a few years back following damage from a windstorm. Mine was a lovely yellow that turned more gold then orange as it aged.

I wouldn't do mail order for a few weeks until things warm up a bit. It should't be hard to find one, they seemed to be everywhere last year. Now that I said that they will probably disappear.

Did you try Ebay? I agree with Arthur. Golden Tang is pretty but there are so many pretty Cattleyas you shouldn't get hung up on just one.

Here's one which is an easy bloomer and smells heavenly. Good for beginner growers. It grew on my window-sill.

What seems to be the problem here? Can't a person like a certain color or particluar orchid? I am willing to buy one for a pretty penny if anyone is selling one here:-)

That's like saying one should be interested in other varieties and colors of Roses, when the only color they like is 'Red' and a particular species.

Ok, now, I must say thank you for encouraging me to branch out of course, and you are all great folks! I love this forum and all that you have to offer.

By the way and that is one beautiful Cattleya Jane!:-)

Sorry about that. Honestly though, I had a Golden Tang years back and it was a headache. I don't have fond memories of the plant because I had multiple problems growing it. I recall it was always getting infested with scale and then bacterial/fungal problems, etc.

So when I think of this plant, I shutter. Hopefully, you will find one and have better results than I did.

Some good advice from Nancy above about joining an orchid society and sucking up. Golden Tang was registered by H & R in 1989 and that is why you would be lucky to find one at an orchid nursery where they are always trying to keep their stock up to date. Interesting that Jane said she had trouble with it in New York. Easy here, but maybe more difficult in some other climates. Perhaps the B. nodosa parent is the problem. Here are a couple of seedlings from the local orchid society gallery. Carmen and Peggy were Novice growers till recently.
It is a nice orchid, but I wouldn�t be offering to pay mega bucks for one.

I got my Golden Tang from Parkside Orchids. You won't find it in their catalog because they only list the latest stuff and the Tang has been around for a while. Do contact them at their e-mail site and ask. Same holds true for other growers. If you don't see it, ask.

And I LOVE my Golden Tang.

Oh Arthur.....so pretty!

The GT that I had years ago also had spotting in the lip. If I were to find another with the spots, it would leap into my hands!!!
