Sorry to say that an id. is almost impossible just on plant form. Orchid 2 might be a Dendrobium but it could also be something else.
20,000 to 30,000 Orchid species and something like 100,000 registered hybrids result in the numbers being against you.
Did the orchid in bud pictured in your first post here ever flower?

Hi Arthurm,

Thank for your reply.

The guy i got this orchid from said the flower bloomed and later it turned into something like this.

The first orchid is cymbidium lancifolium .

Still searching for the name of the second orchid.

Ugh, its killing me because that 2nd form looks very familiar. I want to say check out Epidendrum porpax.

How are you ID'ing this first orchid? Has it bloomed?

Glad I didn't have a punt on the name of the first orchid. Would have got it horribly wrong! Terguy have a look the images on Jay's species site.

Terguy, I contacted a local orchid specialist and got the plant name from him

Anyone,

Can anyone look at this phal and tell me what kind it might be? I've never seen one like it with dimples on the sides.

Any ideas
Thanks

Lloyd

Those little dimples on the side are a peloric feature. The lip on an orchid is a modified petal, have a look at the link for some pics. of Cattleyas with peloric (splash petal) feaures. In the case of your orchid the dimples arise from a peloric mutation.
As far as getting an id. maybe if your orchid is a widely distributed mericlone, otherwise remote especially if your orchid was raised from seed.
No. of registered Phalaenopsis Hybrids. Do not know the number, but it is greater than 22911 which is what you get if you search for Genera Phalaenopsis with an E in the grex name.

Here is a link that might be useful: Previous discussion

Hey Arthurm,

Thanks for that explanation of how it may have gotten the dimples. I figured might be a hybrid of some kind. Figured I'd see if anyone had a clue.
