I wouldn't go that big unless there are so many roots it won't fit back in the 2 inch pot. You can probably fit it right back in the one it's in. The roots should fit in the pot quite snug and if using moss, which I do all the time, put it in loosely and don't pack it in.

Last year l purchased 4 mini plals, that were so pretty I couldn't resist.When I got them home I decided to repot because the sphagnum moss they were in was old and smelly.I cleaned up the roots and repotted with fresh sphagnum in the 2 inch pots they came in.I concur with Chilover.You may notice some wrinkled leaves after the stress of repotting but they should
plump up again.My phals are doing just fine.FYI, mini phals do get bigger.I still have one in bloom that's as pretty as the day I bought it.

The media looks fine; it's just top heavy from being planted high in the pot and being in full bloom. I have it propped up against another pot for support and it's doing fine.
I can see where someone trimmed an aerial root, but it still has a healthy root system.
I was more concerned about it being in Sphagnum, as I have my standard sized ones in a lighter mix, but I won't fix what isn't broken. Next year I may induce a Keiki on it.

I have a mini phal. It was planted similar to yours. When it was done flowering that year, I repotted it into a new pot in bark mix, but the pot was much bigger. It took 3 years to bloom again and I think it was because it wasn't root-bound enough. I think they like to be a bit root bound before they bloom. That one finally bloomed this year for the first time since then! So excited! hehe

I found the happy medium for my top heavy Mini Phal that kept tipping over :) I simply placed the 2" pot inside a 3" pot for support and-Voila! Problem solved. I probably won't have to repot until next year.
