aerial views

I haven't looked at any of those aerial view sites lately and my son told me to check out the maps at MSN. Boy do they zoom in close to your house. If you were standing in the yard when they took the photo you would definitely show up. Go to msn.com. Make sure you are using your Internet Exlorer browser. When you get there, click on maps and then in the box put the address. When the map loads..look right up above it and see if it says "birdseye." If it does then you can click on it and zoom in close enought o see the kind of car that's sitting in the driveway.

Well, the photo of our house was taken by airplane (based on the angle of the photo) very early last May. I know the time frame because only some of the trees have leafed out, and our red bud tree is blooming. The lawns have been mowed and my hammock is out. Also, I have a pile of delivered mulch at the back of our driveway, and my neighbors do not, and last year was the only year we had mulch delivered separately. Depending on which address you enter, you can zoom in differently and see different photos.

In one photo, Jaz is out in the yard. In a different one, my neighbor's pick-up is parked on the street (it usually isn't). I followed my commute to work and found my car in the parking lot. Fascinating!

Mine was taken in early spring too Michelle. The trees were all green and it showedmy large white fence around an empty vegetable garden. There is a big white van in our driveway but for the life of me I don't know whose it is..unless it was someone cleaning the furnace or the chimney.

The aerial view of our property is off by miles. I brought it up for grins and ended up somewhere with a lot of buildings around it........NOT. On another site, it's off by an half mile the other way. It's so distinctive by the lay of the roads, I can pick it out on an 1835 atlas. That's how I got the start on researching the deed finding that owner's name on it.

My properties (now property) in town are a different story. It gets up close and personal. Talk about big brother. I have to crack up with all the hoop-la about privacy acts. To think anyone with puter access can see you relive your wedgie all the way from the sky and beamed down to any point on earth or space. Well, that's pretty sobering.

Suzy...I tried getting a birdseye view of your property but it wasn't enabled. Were you able to click on the "Birdseye" function? With most of the satellite views, they tend to be off and you have to drag the map to your house.

    Yes, it is VERY sobering.

By the vehicles in the drive, I could tell I was home and Mr. Man wasn't.

I can see trees down from Katrina and two of the horses in the pasture.

MSN has clearer closer pictures and google has newer pictures but not so close and a bit blurry. None are newer than 2 years ago an msn switches between 3 and 4 year old pics depending on witch way you scroll from. Lot of construction in our neighbor hood so easy to mark by project status.

The picture of our neighborhood must have been taken last summer, b/c I could see the new awning over our deck and we used it only in the afternoon when the sun was hitting the back of our house in full force for eight hours. I couldn't enable the "birdseye" view, but the zoom function was close enough!

This is kind of creepy. The picture I saw was in the spring or early summer. You can see the vehicles & the garden. Now I'd really be creeped out if I saw myself weeding.

You know,I wonder if maybe they don't take the photo if someone is there. I've looked at lots of houses of places I've lived and of some friends and have yet once to see a person. Surely someone has to be outside sometime, right? I'm going to put in the address of a business somewhere and see if there are people.

All I could see was tree tops and a little bit of the street. I could see my son's causeway and dock, even the boat that was tied to the dock. But no house.

So that's the secret to privacy.....plant more trees.

I went back and put in some business addresses and saw some people.

Beach, not many must have been a school day. Best Buy up the street always busy.

Judging by the traffic on one of our major busy streets, it must have been taken early on a Sunday Morning. I notice one little interesting tag. You could toggle it to "show traffic" or not. I tried it, but it didn't seem to make any difference.

In the arial view of my son's house you can clearly see him putting water seal on the deck....and you can see where he has rolled it on and what's yet to do.
    Really spooky..
my house is hidden in the trees.

Oh great! Now I've got to worry about a satellite getting a picture of my butt while I'm outside weeding!

My area was photo'd about Feb of this year; no leaves, so visibility is good. This is an update; last fall they had about 3 year old pic taken during summer, too many trees to see the house. I know it was this year because neighbor had a boat for sale for the past 3 years, kept on the street. They just sold it in January! Big Brother is keeping his/its album up-to-date.

BTW, it's sort of neat to pull these pics if you are going to drive in an unfamiliar area. I did this for DH, when an old friend went into a nursing home about 80 miles away. It settled the dispute about which exit to take (the obvious one was wrong because the nursing home was on a dead-end street not easily accessed from the closer exit).

I did work because I was at work. It was taken last year some time because the crane was still up. I did this on Saturday and then used the 3D part. It showed a half built building. I thought ok, makes sense. The 2D overhead still shows the crane today, but if I do the 3D, it shows what was built over the remainder of the year! That is, as it stands today. WEIRD!!!!

I thought about this thread again a few minutes ago. Google has an interesting feature. It'll show you what it's like to be standing on the street and looking around. For instance:

    Go to Google maps

Enter 153 1st Avenue North, Nashville, TN

    Pick the street view

Click on the yellow person (on the map itself)

Click the "right" arrow three times (on the photo, upper left hand corner)

What are you looking at? (hint, hint, it's Fort Nashboro)

Two more times and youÂre looking at our Riverfront Park and the river. Or, if youÂd entered 660 Charlotte Pike, youÂd be looking at our state capitol building. It would be cool if we could use it for our place guessing game, in a sort of geochaching way of doing it. However, it only does it for cities in the US. :(

Ours is from the fall, you can tell because everything is dead. And, it was taken some time ago! They hadn't even built the grill area in the back, and you can still tell where they had just removed a tree from the front yard. We moved in last August, and all of that was well established by then.

Have you ever tried Google Earth? We used that SO MUCH when we were house hunting. It was nice to be able to get an idea of an area, before you even bothered going to look at the place.

All the free photos I have seen of where
I live are at least 10 years old.

I did see one that someone bought
that was taken in May of last year.

My favorite site for arial views is Flash Earth.
You can choose between several programs for viewing.
