Sometimes the peloric feature has value especially if the colours of the lip are featured in the petals.
Orchids have three petals with the lip being a modified petal.

I do not have any pics of Phalaenopsis with a peloric feature.

Here are three examples from the Laeliinae sub-tribe where some of the colours in the petals come from the lip.
Firstly a species orchid. Cattleya intermedia var. aquinii.
This was a keeper. A few bloomed with major distortions of the petals and were discarded.

Yes the Phal is peloric and will not open any farther.

They had several of this Phalaenopsis for sale, so it was clear that the flowers were not just "stuck" half way open. I was amused by the seller's insistence that they would turn into "normal" orchids, since I particularly liked the unusual form.

My understanding was that in peloric orchids the (other) petals more closely resembled the lip, so that the flower was more symmetric. So I understand why the splash petal Cattleyas are considered peloric. But what is it about this Phalaenopsis that would make it peloric?

The hybrid "cattleyas" in the pic. are known as "splash petal" types here.
Alsaks Pattern opened flatter when it bloomed this year and the three petals were almost identical. The only way you tell which one was the lip was the presence of the column.
