Hi
I have just been given my very first plant, a Phaleonopsis. It currently has one stem with 2 dark pink flowers + 1 bud at the top. The leaves appear in good shape (firm and a lush green colour).
My question relates to pruning when the flowers drop. I have read loads on the net saying that if the stem is green, you can cut off at the nodes and it may re-flower. However, if the stem is brown, you should cut off at the base.
The stem on my Phaleonopsis is a speckled red/brown from base to tip (you can't see any green unless you inspect it very very very closely. However, it appears strong, healthy and not dying or dried.
I'm confused - should I still cut off at the base when the flower drops or could the stem (though red/brown) still produce flowers?
Thanks!
raybark
