Google J. Yamamoto orchids - he is the hybridizer and has created many nobile type dens without the needed cold, dry period.

Den. Dream was registered in 1970 so it might not be termed a modern type. Improvements in the "modern" types are less of a cool down required and plants bloom on the latest mature pseudobulb rather than on the one produced the previous year.
Just apply standard nobile culture for CA whatever that is.

Standard nobile culture here is keep them cool and dry from Nov until new growth or flowers appear in Feb. I was told that this one will bloom twice a year, it is getting ready right now and usually is in bloom for Mother's Day. I was also told this one does not need a dry, cool rest which is why I posted this to confirm. I also contacted Yamamoto nursery in Hawaii but have not heard back from them. Wow, congrats on that win! Quite a plant. There's a gal in our OS tht grows quite a few of them and she doesn't worry about dry cool down either. She says regular dend culture. I've not tried them yet. Our OS usually has a few of them at May meeting as raffle plants.

Apparently they come in different colors. Ask her if hers is other than purple. If so I would like to trade her some purple keikis for white or what ever.

I saw one in full bloom at our orchid society meeting tonight. It was big and bushy and covered with flowers. The guy grows it with his Cattleyas.

I queried Yamamoto and got this response:

I saw the plant and flowers, however Den. Dream'Ace' is not our cross. The flowers are dark and attractive when it blooms in full; it is good as a collecting item. But we think that ÂDreamÂAce does not last long enough for the flowersÂ.
We need more long-lasting flowers for commercial use.
Den. Dream ÂAce can be used for future cross breed.
We use our own breeding line. Some of the similar crosses to Den. Dream ÂAce are: Himezakura 'sanokku', Spring Dream 'Apollon', 'Kumiko' , Sea Mary 'Snow King', Country Girl 'Murasuzume', Spring Bird 'Kurashiki', Fancy angel 'Lycee', etc.
These plants are larger than Dream'Ace'; the flowers bloom easy, are bigger size, and the flowers last longer.

I'd love to try some of the nobile type but frankly they intimidate me. Maybe I'll build up the gumption someday. gb

Garden plant around these parts and i've not seen many at the local orchid society outside the flowering season of Spring, but maybe if you can find some of the genuine "bloom twice a year types" you might find some that are easier to grow in places with cold winters.

Just looked at Den. Yukidaruma 'King' and the little flowering nubs are just visible. It is another hybrid registered by Yamamoto and is one of the earliest spring bloomers here.

But i don't do anything special, the weather does the rest.
