Please help! I have 2 oncidiums that refuse to bloom! the third plant throws beautiful blooms but not these other 2.....i give them all same light, feeding, water and NOTHING! all same size the all 3 look identical. any suggestions?
How can anyone help with such meagre information? Where are you in the USA? Do you have name tags? where are the plants? What are they potted in? What sort of "Oncidium" is the one that blooms. Does the bloom look like Sharry Baby? or Varicosum Type or Wildcat? or some other type pictured on the net?
To get good advice, you need to tell the posters here lots of Stuff.
They are all 3 Shooting Stars. I have them in a sun room west window. I water every 10 days and do a light feeding with every watering and alternate with a bloom booster (light dose) they are all potted in coconut fir bark. 2 of them bloom and one has only bloomed once about 2 years ago. I am in central texas.
There are two Oncidium alliance orchids registered by the Royal Horticultural Orchid Society with the name Shooting Star, having a guess that your orchids are Brassidium Shooting Star.
Maybe they need a touch more light to flower, maybe they need more of a seasonal change to flower?
My guess is that if you are growing them indoors they are too dry. Most Oncs, in which I include Brassidiums and other hybrids, like a 6 months dry, 6 months wet regime. Yours have the dry regime all the year round by the sounds of it. During the wet period make sure they get a good soaking - by which I mean several hours - at least once a week and in hot weather more than that.If the plants are mounted, a bucket comes in handy...Good luck - Ian.
