Growing orchids on trees

I found a great nursery on Krome that features a $3 "past peak" (out of bloom) orchid table, and I'd like to try growing some of these (phal and oncidium) orchids onto a backyard tree. I've read a lot of conflicting opinion
About how to position the plants (sideways/upside down to avoid leaf rot) - and how to help them become established. When I've seen them already established at various locations, however, they all seem to have been placed right side up.

Can anyone share advice on helping establish orchids on trees in South Florida? Best varieties?
