I think they look happy - they are putting out new leaves. But personally, I would trim those old spikes all the way down to the base.

The roots should be green when watered and grey when dry.

How do you know they are light brown? Judging by the plant having new leaves, I can't imagine that the roots are bad. If you wanted to, you could take them out of their pots and trim off dead roots, and they put them in fresh pots. I did that recently and the plant thanked me for it. I had to trim off literally all the roots except for one and it still grew a new leaf afterwards.

The roots that were peeking out were brown. I actually looked up some videos on YouTube and came across that answer. So I did cut off all the dead roots yesterday I had two healthy ones on one and three on the second. I'm looking into getting some orchid pots with holes around them now. A few months ago I did change the soil and came across some dead roots but didn't know any better and left them in. I could have saved them earlier :( thank you all for your help ;)
