Repotting oncidium

A friend gave me this about a year and a half ago. He was getting rid of it because of the brown spots on the leaves and it had flowered for him and he was tired of it. Today I am repotting it and first I would like to know should it be split up? It looks like there are many plants intertwined. Second what are those brown spots on the leaves? I keep this orchid next to all my phalaenopsis and one has started getting brown on one leaf, is it a virus? I'm not really into orchids but it would be nice if I could get this one to flower for me. Apparently it smells like chocolate!
