Tarnie, you are not the only one who has trouble with orchid names. Our orchid society has some members who have thousands of orchids, grow them beautifully, but are clueless when it comes to writing the names on a orchid show entry form or monthly meeting benching card.

Not that it matters all that much in this case because you can lump them all as Cattleyas. Find some complete culture notes on the net written for Canada and Northern USA and go from there.

Plants look to be in great condition.

Thank you Arthum, I will do that to see if I can do these as well as I did (doing for most of my others!) Arthum, while you are seeing the picture. Would you go back and look at that picture again. The new Catts I arranged them in one big pot as you can see their flowers. But if you look a bit beyond that, do you see my Miltoniopsis spike? with the pleated leaves? I can't wait to show you all when they are open. I don't know you remember last June I bought this plant and didn't know what to do after they were done flowering. I separated the plant and now, between the 2 of them, they give me 8 spikes. Some are still coming out of the stalks yet. Some I can see a bit of color through the thin layer on the buds. I think some of them might open next week!

Hello again Friends,

All my Catts are done with flower. The Orchid Queen opened and lasted only 10 days. But the orange color Catt (Angel Kiss #5) is still there. The stems of the flowers are still very green so I think they will stay for a while yet. My question is that should I re-pot the others which flowers are gone? They all came in a small plastic pots packed with SM. had no holes. I cut holes around the pots for air as soon as I brought them home. They are all look fine to me. Two of them are growing some healthy looking roots but I heard someone here said that we should re-pot them in bark and when the flowers are finish because SM takes too much water.

Did you find some decent "Cattleya" notes written for Canadian conditions.
S/M works fine for some growers as do coconut chunks, the danger with those mediums is "cold and wet" but seeing you are growing in a centrally heated house the cold bit might not apply.
As I said previously those names are important and there are 100,000 registered by the royal horticultural society so if you want fine tuned advice you should copy exactly what is written on the tag.
I have a big collection of "Cattleyas" and use treated pine bark + perlite in the mix. Find those cultivation notes written for Northern USA and Canada and see what the consensus is re the mix.
