All of the above is correct.

If you have a new growth starting, you can cut the long roots half way, but don't disturb any new roots. Then you can get it into a pot/basket easier.

You are in Miami and could just hang it in a tree.

Sorry for late response, just opened up.
So afraid to cut roots, and I do have shorter new roots but will put in small basket with roots wound up and hang under tree.
Right now it is pouring rain, another very wet problem bz of the storm.

It is probably a hard-cane type and it will be easy to grow in Miami. Does not matter all that much but it is best a bit pot bound in a pot hanging so it gets air movement or tied to the eastern side of a suitable tree where it gets morning sun.
Follow what Jane said and do not worry about a bit of root trimming.

Thanks, folks, and I just found out the name of my orchid is Den. Tangerinum, a member of the Antelope family of dens. I potted up roots and all and set it under another orchid pot hanging. So I will wait.
