pot up or not?

I've become a huge fan of Kawamoto orchids, thanks to some who've posted here. Just received a cattleya potted in a 2" pot, about 12" high. As always, I wanted to put it in a clear pot so I can keep track of how the roots are doing. Hubby had to cut out the bottom of the pot so I could push it out. Needless to say, tons of very healthy roots. I'd call it rootbound almost. I put it into the same size clear plastic (rectangular) pot and tucked a few extra bark nuggets into the corners. If it was so tight in the pot, should I go to a 4" pot now? There doesn't seem to be a 3" pot anywhere. Thanks for any advice.
