Probably will be OK . Where does pond water come from?

At the local golf course, the source of the water is urban runoff. Yuk! but the grass looks fine.

Do not forget that the potting mix for your orchids is teeming with tiny life forms....beneficial and harmful, but in good growing conditions in balance.

The best hobby grower in 3 counties draws water from a pond. They call it the puddle. They had their water tested. Yours could be perfect or toxic. Speak to your county agent, they should be able to give a better answer.

I've always used water from my water gardens . Actually went so far as to make a "Seep wall" water from aquarium
pumped to the top ran down the wall back to the tank .
Actually another form of "Aquaponics" The main problem was that the growth rate was so great that the roots diverted the water and needed constant maintenence to keep the circulation going .Also created a perfect fern nursery ,They popped up everywhere .
Didn't run long enough to determine the benefits ,particularly to the orchids but all eight species grew very well just not as well as other species lol
The whole concept needed a LOT more planning
Anyway i frequently use my pond water for all my plants

My irrigation system is from bore water (underground). but every now and again I give some of my plants pond water as a bit of a booster. I call it my dam rather than a pond. It's the central feature of my garden about 30 metres across and about 5 metres at the deepest. And it's full of fish and everything. It's the perfect mix for plants, even loaded with oxygen from its large surface area and exposure to breezes. Unfortunately it doesn't replenish itself enough to use as the sole source of irrigation water otherwise I'd use only it.

Awesome! That's good to hear. My pond is mostly rainwater (sometimes we top it up with hose (tap) water) and captures no runoff... It's also fairly large, larger than a regular backyard pond and has a suitable ecosystem for fish, frogs and algae to grow in.. I wasn't too sure if it would have an effect on my potted plants.. especially those orchids that are still [unfortunately] potted in sphagnum moss and retain moisture for longer periods. Thanks for the insights everyone, i'll continue until winter comes!

I have my ponds filter cleanouts run through 8 inch weeping pipe that runs through my gardens. The plants love it
