I'd cut away the dead stuff. leave a few extra inches of what looks dead. It appears the plant was under watered. Give it water every day. And fertilizer. And a root stimulant. I use Maxi-crop. Give it morning sun, afternoon shade.

I'd water the plant and really make sure all those roots are dead before cutting away. I have an Angraecum sesquipedale similar to this one and some of the roots look pretty terrible but turn green when I water. I think these plants tend to turn into "palm trees" when grown hard ... Very fragrant blooms at night though! One of my favorites.

No potting material for vandas. Many use a wooden basket. Vandas like au natural. Naked. To make sure it is dead stuff start at the bottom and cut an inch at a time. Still I'd leave 2 inches of the dead stuff. Maxi-crop seaweed juice will enhance the roots. Good luck

Well, I cut mine back pretty hard...
I left two long, dead looking roots and threaded them thru the basket to brace the plant into place. I then added the coarse media around them, up to the new roots. I buried one little root and the tip of another. There are still a couple in the air. I'll water in the shower daily and get some seaweed extract this week for those little roots.

For best results for leaf head and cervantes, remove the potting material. That is what vandas like.

Done.I'll continue watering every day. Its best chance of light is a southwest window, but I've seen Vandas take sun, esp Winter sun.
