Happy Thanksgiving

Hope everyone of you has a very happy Thanksgiving.

Son just called, apparently they will be alone for the first time ever on thanksgivng. Seems their daughters and little CJ all went to the spouse's relatives for the day. I told him to get use to it seems that about every other year you will have the crowd. Their son is with his girl friend for the day.

On the great side, he just finished picking corn last night and has it all stored except for 3 grain carts full. Moisture in the corn is high so they will have their driers working full time.

Wish we had planned a little better, the four of us cold have made a day out of it. Leone and I were invited to a cousins house in Ten Sleep WY but that is just too darn far to drive .

If I could just get Leone to quit working for the greeting card co. we might have not to hurry back from a few days off but she says she really enjoys it and anyway, why should she quit, she is only 80. She has pruned her territory down so she doesn't have to drive so many miles and she says she'll quit when I quit the jobs and projects that I'm busy with. Guess we will just keep on because I enjoy what I do also.

But back to the original Thanksgiving wish, hope you all have good company, good food and a great time.

A happy Thanksgiving back to you, Gandle!
At my Thanksgiving dinner we shall be outnumbered by the dogs - it's Joann, Ron and I and both my and her dogs, they with high hopes we shall drop something on the floor and sure that, once we are done, there shall be tidbits for them.
They really are good, none beg (well, Taschi does, a little)
We have so much to be thankful for.

Happy Thanksgiving! Alone here by choice as I no longer can tolerate large gatherings. DH will be attending DIL's huge family gettogether and I'll see them later when they drop by for dessert. I'm cooking chicken & fixings for my own leftovers...lol I decided I enjoy the chopping and slicing and good smells too much to settle for usual plate from the family gathering this year.

Weather is mild high sixties and doors open and colorful leaves still about. I'm thankful for so much, not least that I've got a family which lets me do my own thing...lol josh

    Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
I'm so stuffed from our dinner I couldn't eat a leftover
if someone held a gun to my head.

The cake turned out to be a good recipe and everything
    else was good.
The chicken and dressing was a big hit and no one missed the BIG BIRD.

We had eleven today, some had gone to Colorado one lives too far away to make it for both holidays.

I invited my neighbor for dinner but he declined. His
daughter came over a little later so he wasn't alone.

It was great to see the kids. They all have their own
families now but they seem to still love to come home
    for the holidays.

Sassi certainly enjoyed the attention and the weather was beautiful and WARM.

I managed to not burn the house down so I'm feeling pretty
confident now. Perhaps I can walk and chew gum at the same time.

Just woke up from the turkey induced nap. It was just the two of us today & it was most pleasant. I watched the MAcy's Thanksgiving Day parade & then the National Dog Show (the basset hound was robbed!) while I was working on my Christmas cards. Then it was time for the first viewing of "Miracle on 34th Street." So now the Christmas season can officially begin.

Dinner was ultra-traditional which I like. I don't want culinary experimentation on Thanksgiving. The dog got to lick the plates & now he's snoring away.

I hope everyone had a great day!

Just got back from my brother's. As usual, the drive was horrible (I always manage to miss a turn-off in Allentown), but the food and company more than made up for it.

Since DB and SIL have taken over the hosting of the feast, I don't have the food prep to get me in the festive mood any more. So this year, I started some new traditions. Last night, I broke out the WKRP DVDs and we watched the Great Turkey Drop episode, and this morning as we were getting ready to leave, I pulled up YouTube and let good old Arlo serenade us with "Alice's Restaurant" before we went out the door. Lo and behold, all thoughts of greedy retailers telling me I had better be at their doors at midnight or 4am or some such nonsense on Black Friday disappeared from my head, and I was entirely ready for turkey and family.

    Happy Thanksgiving all!!

I had to laugh at Marda's comments about left-overs. I think she cooked more per capita than I did, but I still wonder what was I thinking? I had planned for six, as I didn't expect my grandchildren to be here.....but my now-sixteen yo Grandson is an official driver now, so even though they spent the early meal with their other Grandparents, they surprised me and spent the supper meal with us. So, I had eight. I roasted TWO turkeys. LOL. The first one is gone as I packed what little was left with the kids, and the second one is wrapped in foil, still pristine and in all its glory.

The fridge is jammed packed with left-overs, and I ran out of room. I had a sea of gravy, and I looked at the temps and figured that the kettle of it would be just fine on the front seat of my jeep with the windows rolled up to keep the racoons out. The only glitch in the situation is that my husband doesn't really like turkey. I have quite a few plastic freezer containers, and I think I'll slice the turkey down and pack up a gazillion containers with turkey and gravy for open-faced sandwiches for the next year. LOL.

I thought about Janis because I almost had a disaster. I had one pie shell filled with the pumpkin and remembered I hadn't added sugar to it. I had to pour it out and add sugar and pour it back in. Whew. It isn't the first time I've done that, and I know from experience, it's nasty that way.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I had six for dinner at my house: husband, my mom, my sister, husbands sister and her husband. Mom cooked the turkey, stuffing, gravy, yummy cranberry molded salad, three kinds of cookies. Husband and I made a ham, mashed potatoes, asparagus, shrimp scampi (for my vegetarian sister) and rolls. Sister in law, Sue, made her wonderful sweet potatoes with coconut and pecans(no marshmallows!), pecan encrusted salmon (for my vegetarian sister), pumpkin pie, apple crumb pie, and individual pumpkin cheesecakes. I'm sure I've forgotten to list some of the food. We ate like we were going to the chair! Sue brought her seal-a-meal, and everyone has leftovers to last for weeks. I think this is the first Thanksgiving that we didn't also have pasta. Criminy, I don't think I'll eat a thing tomorrow. Sue and I shared the dishwashing (by hand). So kitchen looks good, although I just now finished and it's quarter to one!

    Goodnight!
    Mary
