Cake Decorating

Hey y'all! Long time, no read. How's it going around here?

I was just wondering, does anyone here do any cake decorating?

I've just recently started and I'm really enjoying it.

My sister used to work decorating cakes for a bakery then did it on her own. She is in New Zealand and might be getting back into it. I like to eat them but shouldn't. French butter cream is the best.

I do all my kids cakes and I love to decorate although I must admit it stresses me out lol

LOL angel_belle. I was pretty stressed out too, on Sunday. But it all came together somehow and turned out better than I thought it would.

I've got pictures, if you want to take a look at the whole process.

I wish I decorated cakes, but I don't. I even bought a set of tips and a bag. Yours is nice. Good job!

I still have my "tools" I loved it When I worked I'd make the birthday cakes until my assistant was hired. He ran a bakery on the side and I couldn't match his professional cakes.

I still have a lot of cake decorting magazines I don't want anymore - yours for the postage let me know.

And if you feel like seeing some examples of "what not to do", look at this blog.

minnie, that would be great! How would we go about setting that up?

Sorry I just got back to the forum. Firt I have to find them lol no, they are in a box either here or at DS's I could kind of list them and you could say what you want and we'd fig the postage or I could mail them all (as cheap as I could) and you just send a check for the postage.

The box would be heavy but I think media mail is kind of reasonable. First let me round them up. Hope someone wants them I hate to just give them to the thrift stores.

Found the box and hope to get a list posted tonight or tomorrow Some old Maid of Scandinavia issues too,

Once met a very talented woman from Denmark and she said some brides were ordering an elaborately decorated tiered cake...but underneath were cardboard forms. Seems the cake served was from flat pans sliced in kitchen and brought out to guests. Have you run across this phenomenon? Seems brides wanted to preserve the faux cake...??? This was back in eighties so hopefully just a passing fad. Her showroom was full of glass cases of frothy flowered cakes none of which were edible...ugh! josh

Well, I know that was a temporary WW2 trend in the UK: wedding cakes there are traditionally fruit cakes with royal icing. Well, no dried fruit (all imported - no room on the convoys); no sugar; no eggs. So people had cardboard and plaster 'cakes' for a photograph, then a plain uniced cake (if possible) for the guests.

    Love that CakeWrecks blog!!!!!

Sarah, I'd never read of this but of course that was a case of necessity during the war. Like parachutes being used to make wedding dresses which I always thought so touching. josh

It 100% ok, minnie. If waiting until after the holidays would be easier, that's A-ok with me. :-)
