Thanks 4 response! I'm new to gardening in general! Have no idea wat its growing on! D man I bought it from said that it shud start bloomin from december (summer in s africa). He said it would hav blue blooms. I need 2 knw what potting mix 2 get! If its growing off something else would normal soil do?

You should contact the vendor and ask him what it is. Not a Cattleya maybe a Dendrobium of some sort or even a species orchid native to South Africa. It is hard to id an orchid even from a flower especially if it is a hybrid, not a species. Just about impossible from the plant form for some species.
If it is happy on what looks to be a tree-fern mount why not let it be because there are some orchids that grow best on a mount. They die if kept too wet or if potted in an unsuitable mix.
Maybe contact South African Orchid Societies for local orchid growing hints.
