Dwarf Epidendrum hybrid orchids in Australia?

Hi all am looking for more nurseries in Australia which supply dwarf Epidendrum (Reed stem or Crucifix ) orchids.

The image I have attached is of some of my plants already collected though was hoping to find specialists orchid growers who sell these dwarfs varieties?

I have posted on this subject previously though was unable to find any extra plants suppliers unfortunately, so am hoping for may be some one currently on forum, knowing where I may find some new suppliers?

Thank you in advance allan

I guess no one else is going to answer your post....at the recent Southern Orchid Spectacular there were many reed-stems on sale that looked like the red flowered plant in the foreground of your picture.
I do not know where the few available superior plants were originated. Perhaps Cal Orchids in the USA and maybe some of the local orchid nurseries imported flasks from them.
All you can do is ask some of the local orchid nurseries whether they have any in stock.

Thank you for your reply arthurm, much appreciated.

Have emailed Cal orchids to find out if flasks are available & if any one from Oz has their stock?

    cheers

Those look really nice, they always seem to flower so prolifically. Pity they don't do well in my climate. I had a couple but they wasted away over a couple of years.

Thank you for the compliments tsugajunkie z5 SE WI & tropicbreezent, most of these dwarf plants r not as hardy as the old fashion garden plants found in many gardens, this is what I hope to eventually produce more cold tolerant plants as well as sun hardy.

Am hoping to breed these dwarf Epidendrums with a small orchid called Oerstedella centradenia which is more cold tolerant & easy to grow though will be a long term project, also trying to introduce white cattleya clones to breeding with Epidendrums?

It keeps me off the streets................ lol

    cheers

My problem is heat, the plants seem to shrink. The cuttings I've used produce small shoots which never grow. Eventually even those disappear. Whereas I've seen them in Melbourne growing into big tangled masses and flowering prolifically. What I need is someone to breed heat tolerant ones, LOL.

Sarsha, you have to contact the ministry for primary industry in NZ to find out if you can import plants. Probably impossible, but maybe flasks are allowed?

There must be Orchid Societies and Orchid Nurseries in NZ where you can make enquiries. Like Australia, maybe some of the older tough varieties may be garden plants over there .... distributed by the Catholic Church in olden times because of the shape of the flowers and given the common name crucifix orchids.

Thank you ill look into it.

Wow, I just saw your photos.

I find the dwarf crucifix which are my favourite hard to grow nicely.

I am trying to keep a large group alive. The standard crucifix orchids are easy. I am so determined to figure out what Inam doing wrong with the dwarf Crucifix. I bring them indoors at night and on cold days.

Anybtips would be great for the dwarf Crucifix.

Not much activity here, you might get more information if you looked up "Cattleya Hybrids" or "Laeliinae Hybrids" written for where you are in world.

The original poster was writing from Northern Coastal NSW Australia and I Iive in Sydney NSW Australia.

Breeding Epidendrums with other Laeliinae Types might have altered culture requirements.
