SOS- Intergen Stall (Pic)

More than a month like this. BAK. Growing it tight to an 85 w, 23w and a West window. Averaging 75-85º day temps. My normal indoor high humidity 70%. This is driving me nuts!

It spiked outside July/Aug. Brought it in end of August. Uncle Howard told me the orchid perceives it's plunged into darkness when they come inside, but common! More than 6 weeks? Have another (ODBRS) that has 2 mature growths and has produced nothing. They usually bloom together in July. I suppose I should be oh so grateful to even have a big spike...

Any suggestions? This is a brutal stall. 2 buds browned. Have 8 left. The pic are the most developed buds. Concerned that this will end up aborting.

I even pulled out the cermaic heater to give it a little boost since I maxed with light. After a week I saw nothing progressing. I just can't justify $$$ to run heat if I don't see it move forward. This plant has never been such a pain. It's fed regularly. Temp drop is averaging 15º inside. Grow intergens in S/H and rock.

This really has been a symptom all summer long with many species. Warmer growing ones at that. Bellina's, I was scrambling to pull out the blooms. It was a lack of heat at the beginning of summer. I must have some glitch in conditions. However, my oncid types just can't seem to get over the hump this year indoors or out. As you can see by the leaf colour, this one got light and lots of it. It's has 2 new growths 3-4". Is that zappig the energy? The bulbs are fat and big. The roots are some of my best ever. The leaves are a bit floppy as discussed in another post. I have them staked up to get all the light they can grab. Grrr!

Save your money on the heat. Those buds look ready to pop open. Sometimes they're just stuck shut with dried happy juice. Try running a little warmish water over them.

Also I have been known to gently, gently give them a little hint about what opening might be like, just loosening it a little. Use a very light hand. Otherwise you'll cry.

The light for blooming is already in the bank with this one. Yes, a plant coming in from outside will imagine it is in total darkness at normal light levels indoors. Even moving to lights with its wildly different spectrum, daylength and other changes will upset the normal actions of things and cause something of a shutdown. Wondering why brought in end of August but whats done is done. Temps may be high, humidity cannot be 75% at max temp. The new growths are not zapping the energy. Back off the lights, moderate temps, make the plant comfortable.

Same thing happened with my Psychopsis. Big fat bud ready to pop then the temps dropped, wind became hurricane speed and I grabbed everything and brought them in. No lights set up, nothing. Plants all over the house, tables, floors, etc. Anyway, this bud sat for a week. Tried giving it some window light, misted it and finally moved it away from the window and forgot about it. It opened last night. Go figure!

I would pull it back from the lights and maybe mist it a bit. It must be stuck because its completely formed and ready to go.

Lets do a mass marketing on Ebay. All the NE growers who are fed up living like this...

Thanks everfyone. It's off the light bus. Now it needs to make a withdrawl from the energy bank. It's "bank account" is full as it will get in z-5. Mehitabel, no stick but I washed it anyway...that was scary.

H ,,, 4 humidifyers total 2, in this grow room + a very naturally wet apartment. Too long to explain fully. Heat meets cold brick/concrete, the city water supply under the floor. Yes I have a manhole cover in the apt. No kidding. Viola, an orchid micro-climate paradise. Feels like winter in Miami. Gives some people an asthma- like feeling or the creeps. Plenty of air, but no one is used to a wall of humidity. The carnivours work over-time here.

Brought it in for the same reason as Jane. Tall spikes and the Windy city don't mix. I needed control :-) You were right H. If you have good conditions indoors, better to keep certain ones in. Once they're in and spiking, Clara's free orchid trucking service is over.

Jane I'll do the ebay thing with you. I love Intergens but what a year! Waay too much work. Usually when I post they pop. I think orchids can read!

I do too. Way too much. Not enough room, seems everything multiplied in size. I got rid of a bunch 3 months ago, at least 12, yet I seem to have less space. Looking at my bunch I realize here and there over summer, plants have increased. A few keiki's here, a few back-bulbs there. A bunch of divisions, plants repotted into larger pots, and they all require space. So 12 plants become 24.

I envy your humidity. Already my house is about 30%. Had to turn on the heat. Intergens are still out on the unheated porch. Drac is out there also. Don't have lights set up or tables. I can't do a 'Kevin'...I pull plants out of compost. What a nightmare...
