Seeding ground covers

I'm trying to conceal the edges of the pond liner and have decided to use a ground cover with n occasion partially immersed rock. I have creeping thyme started last fall from small plants but want to fill in a significant area behind the pond edge. Has anyone tried seeding creeping thyme (& Irish moss)? any special advise and how long to create a decent cover?
