I am interested in knowing too. I want to purchase some seeds I found online -but wasn't sure how they would turn out. I bought 2 plants last spring. They didn't workout & hate to spend that kind of money again.

I was in FL last week. I was looking for these guys at Walmart & Home Depot. No luck. I was bummed!

Have found some info at the Purdue Univ. site but it only mentions the "date to maturity". I assume this is from seed but no other info on how to plant etc/. As to buying plants, in this are have only seen the tubers offered in the spring in HD & WM in their boxes of bulk bulbs. If the tubers are very firm and plump they will grow well- not at all difficult, however if the ground freezes, they will die, so in your area you may want to dig them when the tops die in the fall or grow in containers. The tuber is in a V shape. Each end has a growing tip.It can be divided in half when planting, retaining a growing tip on each half. If I find more info, will post.

Xeramatheum posted a link to T&M Germination Guide. It lists a half-hardy bulb "gloriosa" with germination time of 30 days at 70-75 degrees in a peaty mix. This is worth a try. Thanks Xeramatheum!

I bought 2 roots as mentioned above. I broke it into 2. Put them in pots & kept moist & waited & waited & waited & nothing grew. Someone in FL sent me one several yrs back. It was beautiful. But as you mentioned, they don't make it here thru the winters. I didn't know & left it outside. So now I am looking for them again.
