Buy one or two a month of blooming plants. That way you ill have something in bloom all the time...

Dropped $500 on chids in the spring. Got 30 or so though, plus the maybe 15 I had before. I really am done for a while. Plus I'm moving and the plants are going to a sitter for a while. It would have to be incredibly interesting for me to buy it now

SM is on to something. Many online nurseries have blooming orchid of te month clubs. Buy a subscription and you get a nice monthly fix.

Great ideas, thank you so much. One every month sounds like a plan.Orchids are not my only weakness.I love African violets, bromeliads,begonias and tropicals plants in general.What can I say, plants make me happy.

Besides learning how to manage orchids, you also need to learn how to manage your significant other. My darling X-wife, bless her pointed little head, who is my very best friend right now, loves Santa Barbara. For a Santa Barbara orchid show she'd come along and was introduced to the $7.50 table at SBOE. For the remainder of our 13 year marriage all of my orchids came from that very reasonable source.

How can you object to a stunning $300 Australian Dendrobium speciosum if it only cost $7.50. It worked quite well for me, she never caught on and there was peace in the valley. Everyone's situation is different but to stop buying orchids is not the solution. It will just build up pressure and when it's time for relief, you'll spend twice as much to release the bottled up fury. So buy more orchids but somehow convince your DH that it is in his best interest.

I just gave away about half of my orchids lol Still have around 150. Have decided to integrate all my plants into a
"landscape " hopefully an "epiphyte garden"?? I have finally been able to resist orchids but recently bought a
few odd ball epis and broke my main rule "No more than 20 bucks for a single plant ". can already see they don't fit into my plan . my other obsessions have been palms tree ferns and gesneriads so still have around 200 pots lol I am making progress at one time had over 500!!! My local orchid society auction is this week. I'm scared. Really scared. I fear for my checkbook and for my plant shelves, which are already a bit snug. My reaction to concerns about space was not "no more plants" ... rather, "just add two more shelves." That's when I realized all hope was lost.

I suppose I can bring them to work, but with 40+ plants already, my boss might organize an intervention. He already came back from a business trip with a suspicious "Are there more plants in my office?"

"No! No, of course not. Those are the same plants as when you left."

There were more plants in his office.

LOL guys! I'm glad I'm not alone.SM suggested 1or 2 per month but I'm way past my quota.Today I went to Home Depot And Lowe's and I ended up buying a beautiful pink oncidium in bud, a phal at 50% off, a beautiful lime green bromeliad with 3 pups and a cattleya in a plastic mesh bag .My hubby saw them and didn't say a word.I'm a lost cause but I love my new orchids.

The fundamental underlying principle upon which it all rests is:

"There is always room for one more".

Not 2 or 3 but 1, how can you go wrong with that?

Went to visit wit mom on saturday and decided to just take a look through a local greenhouse. Well guess what I ended up leaving with a beautiful rose pink den, my excuse, it a pink that will make my already groaning from weight stand looks brighter. Let's face it people we are hopelessly hooked. Lol. See for yourself.

Allymarie, you'll learn that once the horizontal space is taken, the next place to go is up: hanging mounted plants!
