If you describe the conditions where you are growing the Phalaenopsis it will assist in diagnosis. Watering Frequency, Temperatures, Amount of Light, Type of Pot,
Potting material and so on.

They are supposed to easy to grow!

Growing in original orchid pots, east window, watering once a week...ice cubes or sometimes liquid. Temperature is usually around 60.

oops! double post!

Is it possible to take a picture of the roots? What kind of medium is it in? Do the roots look discolored/black and mushy?

Jason

Is it still in the original potting mix? If so for how long? I like to repot my Phals every two years. Lower light levels at this time of year often make lower leaves yellow then brown then drop. It doesn't look that sick to me. Think of orchids as your plants that move in slow motion.

Stop using ice cubes. Best to learn the culture of your plants. The roots need to almost dry out before watering again. No ice cubes!

Jane

Can someone comment if I should repot and use the original container that I purchased the orchids in.....

If the original container has drain holes you can use it. The dark spot might be sunburn from your window. I would not repot unless your pot has no drainage. I'd wait to repot until you see growth occurring, which should be early Spring. If the sphagnum is very dry, give they plant a soak, let it drain well then put it back in the same pot. I wouldn't disturb the roots this time of year.

Sorry I didn't retread your other posts before replying. It was after 1am, long day/night of shopping and cookie baking, and probably too many 'rum-balls.'...have to keep tasting the cookies to make sure I added enough rum,

Merry, Merry,
Jane

Thank Jane for all the valuable info! Rum balls sound delish! Baking is my hobby, untll spring arrives anyway...so I totally understand. Merry Christmas! :)

Looks like a sunburn to me.
