Filtering Matala Mats Needed

Hi - I am from Ontario Canada and looking for some Matala mat for a 55 gal drum.

Guy at pet store offered me a 48" x 10 ft roll for $120 but I thought that was expensive.

Anyone on the forum offer better deals for filtering media please let me know asap.

Also let me know shipping prices from the USA - thanks!

www.azponds.com has Matala Mat. They have free shipping, but don't know about to Canada. Glenda

This is where I purchased mine. You can buy an individual sheet.

They used to have free shipping over $100 but seem to have discontinued it.

I do not know the cost to ship to Canada though.

Here is a link that might be useful: Matala Mat

Feese, beware of brokerage custom charges. I've ordered a few small things from the USA and never had any additional charges, came straight threw.
This time I ordered the Hydro FilterSilk from Russell Watergardens. This filter media is very light and looks like a bunch of netting. Well I was shocked when it arrived, in a huge box (the media could have easily been compressed and placed in a box at least 5 times smaller). I've emailed and complained about this.

I was also hit with a $39 brokerage charge that we had to pay when they delivered it to our door. This $39 is on top of the $78 total (including s/h, taxes, exchange rate) that I had paid already.
This 'FilterSilk' ended up being quite costly and now I wish I had just bought something compariable on this side of the border.

By the way, not sure where in Ontario you are, but I think Connon Nurseries in Waterdown sells the Matala pads. (They sell EasyPro Pond products and I know the EasyPro filters have Matala pad replacements available)

If you do find a good cheaper source, please post it, as I may also want to get them one day.

Thats actually a pretty good price. Matala is a lot more expensive than the standard white filter media, but it is definitely worth the cost. Works better and lasts a lot longer. I'd say jump at it especially if you can't find any local.

On the Matala website, there are two distributors mentioned in Canada. Maybe they can tell you who carries it retail in Canada.
    PACIFIC PONDS PLUS
5966 SOUTH PARK SURREY, BC CANADA V3X2B8

    WEST COAST KOI FARM

The trick with brokerage and the Canadian border that I know of, is to avoid UPS, and insist that the package be sent by USPS (US Postal Service). USPS brokerage costs $5; UPS is at least $30.

BTW, I didn't think Matala came in rolled sheets. I thought it was either flat sheets, or pre-coiled round flats that fit barrels.

    david2006,
My local pond place carries the 10 foot rolls and then sells it by the custom piece or linear foot. It is basically a 10 foot flat piece.

1sst, that is exactly what I was referring to.
I am from the Hamilton area by the way. Does anyone know where I could get the round mats that are used on those floor cleaners/buffers?
